came across this example.

Post by ben »

Hi. New to this forum but am a mod on another vwaudiforum. I stumbled across a nice classics scirocco the other day and wondered if it would be worth a punt.

It has the FR 1588cc engine with 85ps reg and chassis no.s match.

I think that this was on eBay recently. Looks lovely. Unless it was a total rip I'd be tempted. is this the one that's been in storage since 2000?

EDIT: I am talking nonsense. There was an X reg one that looked identical, but with 50k on the clock.

I particularly like the red pin-stripe

looks like it should clean up nicely, and that rust patch by the screen should be a nice easy repair for a decent bodyshop. worth having it done too, as it'll probably let water thru into the cabin and onto the fusebox!

Ben, you didn't specifically mention whether you'd actually bought the car or whether you'd merely seen it for sale and were wondering whether you should buy it?

    Hi.

No I have not bought the car. It is within 10 miles of Coventry in the Tamworth direction. I would be tempted but I don't have a garage to keep it out the elements whilst doing work.

Are there any members on here that are in the coventry area?

It needs a new drivers mirror housing as its been impacted at some point. Also needs carpets in the front. The risk is in the state of the underbody I suspect.

That looks like real nice find, hard to find one as untouched as that. Early ones like that look a treat decked on dished rims, I'd say worth a punt alright!

It's crying out "RESTORE ME PLEASE" :crying: :crying:
From what's visible on top not a lot required, what's it like underneath ????
    Wish I lived in Tamworth.

No idea on the underside. It's a bit of a risk as I've never done anything like this.

as long as the axle mounts are fine and the rear arches/filler neck not too far gone it well worth a punt - my project rouge gtl was in a similar state after 7 years underneath a lean-too.

Looks like a really nice car mate, but I'd try and have a good look at the underside and as GTXTRA said the axle mounts and rear arches.

I paid £800 for my 82 GL a couple of years ago with 56K on the clock and it had tax and MOT.
It had a similar patch of rust around the front screen, a couple of patches around the rear arches, a small tear in the drivers seat, and the brakes needed replacing, other than that it was in great condition!

Mirrors with the chrome are pretty rare but they do come up for sale now and again.

    cheers
    Tony
