I hope someone can help - I am experiencing quite a wobble through the steering wheel which becomes really obvious at 50mph and gets steadily worse to the point where it feels unsafe. My first thought was wheel balance however after having the balancing done the wobble is still there and also, in the past when it has been wheels out of balance the wobble is only over a short speed range whereas this just gets worse!. The only other work that has been done is replacing both suspension top mounts - they were in a bad way and replacing them has transformed the ride.

Any clues?

have you checked wheel bearings?

I had this on my old Proton, and after replacing virtually everything it turned out that the tyre on the offside was warped - so much so that when spun, it snaked about three inches either way. It's worth checking obvious stuff like this - only takes five minutes.

Any noise with it?
Reason I ask is I had a C*lica that did the same
turned out it was the tyres had "stepped" causing vibration
and a wheelbearingy/gearbox type noise.
Cause of tyres "stepping" - excessive right foot in tight turns

Tracking, wheel alignment, spiggot rings on wheels too small/non-existant/broken, wheel nuts cross threaded/loose/bit of crap caught between bolt & wheel, uneven tyre wear from before balancing, can't think of any more for now.

Had the tracking done, balancing done, bought spiggot rings - turns out someone has tried to redesign the wheel - both front wheels were oval not round! Whoever had the car before me has buckled the wheels and put them to the back.

So that solves that problem - now I need new alloys..........................
