SOLVED: Higher on one side

Hello,

I recently replaced the strut top mount on the front left hand side of my car. For some reason it's now a few inches higher on that side. Does it just need to bed in properly (the car hasn't been driven yet) or have I done something wrong?

I also had to disturb the suspension on the other side when I did the CV boot. Could I have messed something up there?

Cheers!

Having measured it, it's an inch higher. My dad thinks the right hand side spring might have been permanently deformed from being compressed for too long.

Ok...I feel kind of stupid now. It seems that a combination of having a sloped drive, a new (and therefore having less play) strut top mount, and 20 years of a presumably large driver means that there isn't really much of a problem.

On a (relatively) level surface, the difference between the sides is now less than 1/2", which seems negligible to me - especially once the strut top mount has bedded in properly. It was probably like that all along and I just never noticed. :dash:

For what they cost why didn't you change both strut tops?

Dunno really, it didn't need doing and I wasn't planning on taking the suspension apart on the other side. That and being on a tight budget due to having to spend a lot elsewhere on the car. Guess I could think about doing it though.
