Speedo broken :(

Stopped working the other day after my mate removed and refitted the clutch cable (not sure if they're related...). It was ok at first, then the needle would start shaking around when I put the clutch down...Now the needle only moves if I press the accelerator down pretty far, but even then it doesn't work properly - it was showing 30mph and I was actually doing about 70 (honestly officer!). The MFA also seems affected - the mpg, journey mileage etc. seem to be only working very slightly ie. mpg is very low, average speed is low etc.
Any ideas? Sender been dislodged perhaps? I don't even know where the sender connects...Haynes Manual was unhelpful as usual ('disconnect sender from transmission'), no picture or description of where it is...
Any help would be much appreciated...Cheers.

Most likely the speedo cable has become dislodged on one end.
The end on the clocks is easy enough to get to - instructions on the FAQ here:
http://sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/faq/ ... 4/mfa-fix/
Remove the undershelves and cover.
Reach up from underneath and squeeze the cable end remove and replace - hopefully this should resolve the issue

If not behind the dash check the drive that goes into the gearbox, these wear out and break, only cost a couple of quid from the dealer.

Thanks for the tips, I will try both of those.
Where exactly does it join the gearbox, and what does it look like? This is what the Haynes Manual forgot to tell me...(I'm a bit of a noob - only know how to fix things that I have already fixed :p )
Cheers.

It goes into the top of the gearbox. Locate the cable and follow it down, when you disconnect it and pull out it has a plastic drive on the end, this is what usually goes, but good news they can still be bought from the dealers for a couple of quid. Easy fit.

If you remove the speedo cable from the gearbox be very carefull you dont lose the plastic drive thingy from the end of the cable and it drops into the gearbox.

Thanks for the tips. Will have a look at this tonight and will def watch out for the plastic bit - I doubt very much it would agree with the gears very well...
