78 Daily driver

Gidday lads,

Have just bought myself a 78 facelift mk1 rocco. I already have a 76 project but when this thing came up I had to have it. I got it for $2k (around 1000 pounds) here in New Zealand.

The plan is to tidy it up as much as possible, fit some nice bits that I have and use it for daily duties.

I'll be putting on my chrome bumpers, NOS tail lights, (factory??) de-wipered tail gate, french spec hella headlights, duckbill front lip & some cherry red BBS RMs that I'm refurbing.

I've just finished building my corrado 24v which is why I now need a daily, the corrado doesn't like going to the supermarket!

Can anyone identify the name of the interior colour combo? I was hoping it was the Sienna red but am thinking it's going to be poo brown & orange! Either way I think when it's cleaned up it should look sweet with the platinum silver.

I've just tried uploading pics from my photo bucket but says image has exceeded bandwidth. Signed up for a flickr but can't figure out how to copy the image code & paste it here - anyone point me in the right direction here!?

Car arrived today. I'm pretty happy with the condition, not much rust and a really straight body. It has 91,000 miles on it so fairly low for a 1978 car. First thing I did was put some gas in it and go for a drive, not a bad for having been asleep for ten years.

More pics in the next few days. First thing I did was put the chrome bumpers on!

That looks really nice.
Lucky it went to a good home.
Can't imagine that there are many of them about.
ENJOY.

Sat some early wings & lights on the car along with some french spec hella lights. I think I like it, so will go ahead and convert the front end to pre-facelift.

I've still got them and i'm keeping them because if I sell them, my other shell will become an incomplete car.

No updates on the mk1 as such....

The motor in the Corrado seized though so I bought an R32 motor ex Japan. That should be here mid-late July and has sucked up a lot of spare money for now.

Just yesterday though I was told of a mk1 rocco for sale. ONE owner from new, full service history, always garaged, mint condition with 90,000kms on the clock. I'm going to check it out and if it's a good deal I'll sell the grey car for this one!

Sounds like a plan, I constantly look for "better" cars in case something special comes up!

Turns out the unicorn one owner car was a mk2 so no good to me.

The R32 motor is about 3 weeks away still for the Corrado, but I'm moving house soon so need both cars on the road.

The mk1 now has the pre-facelift front end on. Guards are in primer and bootlid also. I added a bootlid from an 81 car that I got for free because it had a wiper delete that came factory - which cars had this? My 76 car has a rear wiper as did the factory tailgate off this car. I also deleted the badges on the new bootlid which is getting paint this weekend along with the guards.

I'm on the lookout for some coilovers still. I'm also in the process of to taking all the early chrome stuff off my 76 car and putting them onto this. The goal is as much chrome trim as possible - suits the cars so much more than the plastic bits.
