I've seen a few mk1's with them fitted (Alex a.k.a. SCIROCCOSILBERFEDER has one on his mk1 GTi).
Personally I don't like 'em

I think they're reasonably common on mkIs. They give you a good open area if you're after the next best thing to a convertible.

I have fond memories of them, I would love my kids to have a simular ones. I also think it would give my car an old skool look
Depends how cheap I can get one though

Got one on my Mk1 79 Storm- the guy who did my respray couldn't safely remove it so upset the airflow during process. I don't take it out in heavy rain just in case it leaks. It has a Design Council award sticker on the mechanism and opens/shuts fine but I would swap it now for a glass sunroof . They are slightly too big in proportion, creak a lot, have leak potential and are definitely NOT recommended though do give a touch of cabriolet when fully open.

Not a fan. All the ones I've ever seen look like aftermarket jobs which isn't what I want on a car, if that makes sense.

I just have visions of cruising 'round with it open on a decked Rocco, but I'm thinking its not a good idea :(

This'll sound strange but I think the Rocco is far too aggressive to have a sun roof. It's supposed to sit there looking like it wants to eat your nan and sex your dog.
it makes sense to me.

I'm glad you asked that. I've wanted one for ages. My Dad used to fit webasto roofs in the 60s and I love em. We used to have an old schimiter with a webasto roof. - reg was SYD 700M (cool if your name was Syd).
Reckon if I really get the urge, I'll buy a Schimiter though. A girl can never have enough cars, eh?

I have a weather shield on my mk1. No leaks etc. its being on since 79? Its still in good nick but the frame under the folding roof is rusting. you cant see it but can feel it. A few more years hopefully.
Pat.

A Schimiter? Do you mean a Scimitar, as in an Ogle-designed Reliant, or is this a car I've never heard of. Or not a car at all?
By the way, natty vinyl roof, Pat

I'm in the middle of restoring mine, will post some pictures when I find them, there was some nasty rust under the chrome trim where they cut the roof to fit the webasto. I did look into filling in the hole but that will be more expensive than recovering the webasto. Its been on the car since 1979.

Go for it!!!
You can pick them up on ebay reasonably cheap. I've just got one that was out of an MGB for £56 complete with all runners.
It's going in my camper though
