....to buy car stereos?
I'm after 2 things
1. A single din head unit, front AUX socket for iPod, highish output, cheap, not made by someone I've not heard of.
2. A converter plate to allow it to fit in to a double din slot of an '07 Passat.
Any recommendations?

I've got an Alpine ida 200 or something. It's all ipod'd up and suits the car. But then I can't really comment on cool kids as I only got it as I know I'm safe with Alpine

2. Autoleads do one of those which is perfectly serviceable... used one in an 850 I had.
1. I'm not sure I'm a cool kid. If you have a proper iPod and don't want generic mp3 player compatibility, I can throughly recommend the proper iPod adaptor connectors, allowing you to control the iPod with the headunit (so you can stash it somewhere out of sight like a glovebox).
Like Mr Funk says, Alpine do these and they do the job well. However, I slightly prefer the Pioneer system for ease of use. I had a Blaupunkt system in the past that wasn't very good, but it was an early version and they might be better now. JVC do them too, but they've always seemed a bit cheap and nasty to me. Kenwood also do a system for iPod, but I haven't used that one either.
I'm afraid I've been going old skool with the Minidiscs recently (in-built anti-theft system... no-one else wants them) so can't recommend specific head units.
I've used
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ a lot and generally they have good prices and quick delivery.

Im not that bothered about controlling the ipod from the headunit, i just want to be able to use an aux socket as radio transmitters are complete shoite!
Not too fussed about audio quality as its just for audiobooks but want a cheap solution. Will check out the sites, ta :)
