Help!!!

Post by dozzum »

Still struggling to get my car to work.

The problem
Car starts fine from cold.
IF you blip the throttle too quick it dies. (does this hot or cold)
Will sit and idle and rev in neutral for ever no problem
Revs fine upto 6000 in neutral as long as you do it slowly.
Take it out for a drive and after a little while it starts to die in fourth at bout 3000
drop it to thrird and it goes ok
not long after it does the same in third
Once its died like this it wotn start for a good 15-20 minutes but only works in 1st and second as long as its not straining at all.

Tried replacing the ignition control unit as i heard this can get hot and cause this problem, but made no difference.
The only thing i can think of is that we changed teh fuel tank and put the breather in upside down, OOOPS
After the fuel tank change it ran for a whole day beutifully before it died now it only last bout 10-15 mins.
Pherhaps the vacuum it created caused some damage to the pump???
My dads cleaned the carb out and that made no difference.

If someone local to Stroud/Gloucester has an electric fuel pump of some sort lying around could i maybe borrow it to see if that is what it is?

or any other ideas are welcome???

The assesor from the police insurance company will be coming to look at it soon after a police lady crashed into wing and im worried hes gonna write it off n il have no option but to take it as i cant even get it to work.

Maybe you've got a vacuum leak or leaking carb gasket. Sounds to me (and I'm always willing to be corrected) like you're sucking too much air in somewhere.

We checked the one between the carb and teh manifold and that looked fine. Its got its MOT on saturday so it'l have its CO mix fiddled with then and well see if that makes it any better. A webber is definatly part of my plan for the very near future anyway. Just got to find a good second hand one.
