Anyone else had problems where a re-skinned door has caused problems where the rubber seal should sit in a groove along the bottom? My drivers door has a crap seal groove and I am considering removing the seal as it makes the door tough to close

No probs with the two doors that I have just reskinned fairly recently.

The seal sits inside the 'inner skin' of the door all the way around meaning that there is a double skin at the bottom. Check if the seal groove on the bottom of your door has been hacked off, altering the dimensions of where the seal sits.

If you remove the seal you will get lost of wind noise and air and water ingress into the car. Has the seal popped out at the bottom? the seal should be glued snugly into the groove. Loose seals can flap about and jam in the door.

sorry to hijack...

ant, when you welded the skin repair sections on, how did you stop the doors warping badly from the heat. i've tried doing it in the past by just welding spots of weld along the door to stop any 1 area getting to hot and they still warped like a parsnip.

Hiya Nate,

Are you using mig? what size wire? 8mm will be a bit hot and harsh for a door skin, I used 6mm.

I jumped around the panel putting spots of weld here and there until they were all joined up. I also gave the panel quite a few breaks from welding so that it didn't get too hot. Still got a little bit of distortion which is unavoidable, but the worst was taken care of with a skim of filler.
