Scirocco Register

On ebay there are 4 types for sale ranging from 12 to 40 quid, apparently four different versions, 4th being most recent edition. Presumably each version is an improvement. Listing on each states very easy 5-10 minute fitting job. How much difference is there between the versions really? 1 much cheaper (£12ish), 2 3 and 4 all 30 to 40 quid. Which represents best value? Anyone tried more than one version? Cheers all.

They bascially all do the same thing so its a case of picking one!

Personally, as long as it worked i'd go for the cheapest one.....

or make your own for even less ;)

Reading about the SX4 and the SX1 looks like they actually do different jobs with varying levels of quality in design.

SX1 is for dipped
SX4 covers dipped, full, fogs I think too.

Might be worth reading the descriptions to be sure.

Also more expensive ones supposedly have better build quality - again read the descriptions..

I think a few people on here have bought the SX1 but thats about it.

As Rohan says, the cheap one does your dipped lights, so unless you planning on going on a Rally stage, its all ya need really dude.

Definatly worth the dollar. Naturally, if you have access to the bits make your own but it doesn't work out that much cheaper.

hand experiance of a electical fire in a car, and its not nice.
But each to there own. Let us know how much of an improvment the kit is please dude

Which one did you go for monza, let us know how you get on with it - I may go for the sx2 or sx4 also ..

He promised my sx1 would come today but he's just told me he didn't send it. I've looked at the spec on the sx1 and it's not "cheap electrics" as you suggest. It is just purely that it only does one light (pair). "just purely only"! ha, went a bit far there...

Anyway, I'm gonna fit it Tuesday now. I'll post the verdict then. I'm asking for the dipped beam loom. Don't see the point doing the fogs or full beams.

Electrical fires are most commonly caused by poor contacts, leading to "arcing" (sparks). Usually the fitter not tightening things up properly or not prepping contact surfaces well, rather than low quality equipment.

Just noticed I never followed this up - my first ever post on the new forum!

The upgrade was ace and worth every penny. Very well put together and quality components. If I'd made it myself with parts from work (vehicle and electrical spares wholesaler) it'd have cost almost as much. As previously stated, the SX2,3 or 4 are overkill unless you're rally driving. A waste of money in my opinion. I expect the quality would be no better as I don't know of higher quality parts available than the ones used on mine.

For under 15 quid and 5-10 genuine minutes fitting time, it's got to be the best value upgrade possible for a Scirocco. Everyone should have one, the difference is significant. Coupled with uprated bulbs, my Sciroc's lights are now better than most new cars for a mere £20 in total.

I had a look on Ebay and there only seem to be the dearer ones available now, but I believe they come with new plugs ready to slot in. I had to cut and splice wires to fit mine using the original plugs. I'd say it's still worth it at 30 to 40 quid.

Have two different looms installed on my two Roccos.
The first one I bought was a cheap version with a single relay and I had to splice the wires. It does the job with the main lights but it does look cheap.
The second type I bought was definately worth the extra cash. It is better designed and works both the main and spots and I didn't have to cut any wires. The new relays are wired into the old bulb connector, you simply have to push spade connectors into them. I paid £36 pound (about a year ago)from mae700 on ebay.

I too would highly recommend this type of upgrade, I couldn't live without it now.
