the 2.9 is the abv engine only fitted to cars like the corrado red badge... not a common engine.. better to rebore the 2.8... you can go as far as 3.1 ;)
a 2.8 AAA is much cheaper and the parts arnt hard to get like the elusive ABV 2.9.,, my mate has a 2.9 in his raddo we just rebuilt... it took him a couple years to source all the correct parts...

Apart from the additional 100cc’s, do you know what are the major differences are between the 2.8 and 2.9 VR6 engines??

Any particular reason for the VR conversion?
Obviously it's a can of worms but such a heavy engine can make the handling rather "interesting". If you want obscene grunt have you considered a 20vt? Mate has one in a golf (mk1 so same chassis) and it's a utter beast.

the vr is just a cheaper option really , u can get a whole mk 3 golf vr6 ,with everything u need for less than jus a decent 20vt mostly not even a turbo attached.
