As far as i know the fuse boxes are all pretty much the same, i know the blade and original castle fuses are interchangable.
Plenty of info on the 'rocco fuse box
here and
here, the fusebox is Central Electric 1 (CE1)

By the 'old type', do you mean the early Mark 1 fuse box with the ceramic fuses?
If you want to change one of those in a Mark 1, for the Mark 2 fusebox with the blade fuses, you will (1) need to change the mounting frame under the dashboard as the two fuseboxes are different sizes, and (2) change all the connector blocks on the loom that plug into the rear as they are different.

yeah, i have a very early mk2 , oct/nov 81 as far as i can gather, but it has the torpedo style ceramic fuses and fuse board. now there is nothing wrong with it but i was just toying with the idea of swapping it for the later blade type fuseboard. if it was too much hassle i will leave well enough alone.anyway it might have to go on the backburner cos i think the headgasket went on it last night! :( not entirly 100% sure it is the headgasket yet, i bloody hope not! thanks for all the advice!
