MK2 Scirocco B Pillar Decals / Sticker

Post by mazellann »

MK2 Scirocco B Pillar Decals / Sticker - Anybody bought any of these off ebay from Brownstickers?

Got some a while ago and just got round to fitting the passenger side today, the thinner strip is about 5mm too short and the larger piece isn't even the right shape, when you line it up at the top edge the bottom edge is way out, ended up cutting it to fit, but because of all the messing about trying to fit it, it now looks rubbish, wont be buying anything from them again!!

Didn't Ian buy a set of these a while back either for his Storm or the Scala? :dunno:

Received this from the seller:

Hi

Sorry for your problems, we do get these emails quite often. The decal material is designed to be stretched when fitted, so if you marry the decal up before fitting, it will indeed look shorter. How the decal needs to be applied is fitted in position from the top and worked down to fit the area, the vinyl can be stretched to make up to 10cm if need be.

They are designed like this from VW aswell, if they were made too big, there is nothing that can be done about that, so they are sized to allow a slight bit of shrinkage, so when fitting you have to stretch it (it does not effect the look of the sticker either, the material is designed to do this)

The alignment issue can you please send some pictures? I fitted a kit only last week to a lad local with no problems at all, so i can advise if i have some images to show.

We do offer a fitting service ourselves, or it might be worth contacting a local sign company to have them fitted professionally.

But zap over the info and i will see what we can sort

thanks.

I will have a go at the drivers side next weekend, may not have the same problem now i know it can be stretched quite a bit.

Thanks for putting this info up, I have just ordered these myself for my scala. Mine are so tatty that i figured that they wouldnt look any worse!
I shall put up a reply and let you know how it went...
What is the best way of removing the old decal and how 'clean' does it have to be underneath before appying the new ones?

Thanks a lot

Pete

Pete, I was a little apprehensive about tackling mine at first in case I damaged the paintwork underneath, but was spurred on by my recent successful removal of the under-bonnet soundproofing.

So I got the white spirit and the credit card out (most folks use these) and gave it a go, but before trying to actually remove the vinyl I warmed it up to make it more pliable. Initially, I used a hot air gun, but was concerned this might be too hot so ended up using a hair dryer. I found that the vinyl cooled down quite quickly so I just tackled it a small section at a time - steady away and all that.

Eventually, I had it all peeled off …

Then, I went over the entire area with white spirit and using the credit card ‘scraped’ off all the glue that had been left behind before giving it a quick blast with some Meguiar’s Speed Detailer …

As you can see it came up a treat. I've ended up leaving mine 'naked' for the moment as I can't decide which look I prefer.

Hope that helps and good luck. Be interesting to see how the replacements look when they're fitted.

:beers:
