Simple Gearbox Advice

Post by Bonusrocco »

I'm steadliy sourcing parts to swap my 1.6 carb block for a 1.8 EX/GU.

So far ive aquired a gti 8v cam, and i've got my eye on a block, weber carb and a new clutch.

Please can somebody point out which box would be best? Mk1/2/3?

I'm dying for five gears, but i'd also like to make it Gti-ish as poss. Will it effect which clutch I need? and Also will it effect the speedo compatability??

Any help would be great, as its easy getting lost in all the info out there. :stupid:

The box out of a GT11 is a standard GTi type box as far as i am aware, and as it's supposed to go with the EX engine anyway, you wont have any problems with fitment or clutch. Fairly sure the speedo won't be effected by this change either

I think all 1.6/1.8 boxes are compatible throughout mk1-mk3, but i know a mk1 clutch it not compatible with a mk3 block
