Setting up Gears

Post by Risocco »

Hey guys, since refitting the engine and box, its almost impossible to find 4th and to be honest, the rest of the gears hardly inspire confidence in terms of selection. Before the swap, the gear change was mint on my car, is there a tried and tested way to set up the linkage so I can get that back again?

Cheers guys, any help really appreciated :beers:

Me and Tony set up the gears on a car at the Durham show last year. We used a 15mm socket as a gauge then tightened up.

Right-o, how do you mean as a gauge sorry? Where does the socket go? As you may have guessed this has really got me stumped!

Get an assistant to sit in the car whilst you are underneath and hold the 15mm socket against the gear stick and push to the left until it is held there, it can be quite tricky, then tighten, basic but works!

Haynes says the adjustment should be between 13 and 15mm, I tend to use use an appropriate sized nut as a spacer to set the gear stick up.
