Wipers not working in fast mode!

Hi the wipers on my '85 Scirocco work in intermittant and normal speeds but when you go to put them in fast mode they just freeze wherever they happen to be on the screen at the time! Turning the lever back to normal starts them working again! Any ideas? Thanks

Check the relay.

Or the stalk. One of mine was very sensitive to being in the right position, otherwise the wipers would just stop dead.

DIRTY SWITCHES
Ive had trouble with the back wiper not working on pushing the stalk and also indicators not always working. Apart from obvious earth faults and seized spindles the problem is often dirty contacts in the stalk switch, especially as these cars are quite old.
The solution is to spray contact cleaner into the switchgear to clean off the dirt. It worked a treat. Contact cleaner from Maplins.
