Scirocco Register

I got a set of Snowflakes cheap which will need a refurb. Will need stripped and rubbed back because of corrosion. Not a problem for me

Anyway the only bit of kerbing is pictured below. Could I tap this out carefully with a hammer using something between the hammer like a dolly even a piece of wood?

Or is it really brittle and would it need heat or even welded and ground back to get a good finish? I've even seen a single wheel on ebay but the seller is asking more than I paid for the set of four I'm possibly looking at polishing the metal so couldn't just file and fill it if you know what I mean.

I spent a full afternoon with a wire brush and various other attachments on a drill just removing paint from them, ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE !!!!!
I tried to keep mine black and silvery but I ended up painting them all black as the alloy would tarnish quickly.
As regards the kerbing I had a similar problem but on the inside of one of the rims and the first time I put a new tyre on it it would not seal.
I took it back to the garage and they removed the tyre and I took the wheel home and set about it.
First I gently knocked the worst of the dink out with a very light hammer and a block of wood.
I then used a alloy metal paste (can't remember it's name) and filled in where the tyre wall meets the wheel and built this up gradually til it was proud and then sanded it back and removed the excess on the outside of the wheel, not necessary as the wheel will be balanced anyway.
I would NOT use a naked heat flame near my alloys other opinions may differ.
Back to the garage, tyre refitted and OK ever since.

I'm still a fan of these and got them cheap. Want them to be really tidy for next spring/summer. Got plenty time to decide what to do paint wise. Still like the solid silver we discussed

I won't go near heat, just try some 'gentle' tapping with hammer/wood. Other than that one ding they look good if a little surface corroded.

Tedious at it may be I actually like doing this sort of thing. Chemical warfare will commence on the paint 1st with an automotive paint stripper

Then I should really leave well alone and concentrate on sump/rocker/carb/heater valve etc at the weekend Uni starts Tues

worth a try battering out that dented bit , ive done a few with various levels of success , it doesnt take much for that bit to just fall off after a few belts, im not sure if heat would help?

worst case you might need to find someone to build a bit up with weld then dremel it back to shape

easy and relatively cheap repair by a wheel repairer. there is a definite risk of cracking the wheel if you try to just batter it back into shape.
