i changed the driveshaft flanges on a new gearbox goin onto the rocko, when i took the old ones off my old gearbox a brass ring fell out from behind the spring....... in 3-4 pieces!!!!! :shocking:
i remember there being a funky rumbling comming from the gearbox at low speed ever since ive had it. do you think this could have been the cause?
+ is this ring essential? obviously its supposed to be in there for a reason but can a cracked one suffice?

This would appear to be the set up at the flange / gearbox connection.
If it will be ok ?????? I'll leave that up to the experts to decide.

Good Luck.

The rumbling would not have been caused by the broken ring.

No. 4 in the picture above is the tapered brass ring and is required. If you can refit the broken pieces so that they sit flush, then you can reuse them, but I suppose it depends how many pieces they are in. New ones are, I think, still available.

Have a look at Broke's gearbox site for all things 020 :-

ahhhh cheers, i was just a bit shocked after taking the flange out and have little broken brass bits fall out on the floor lol. as i said ive changed the gearbox now hopefully there will no longer be any rumbling, ive got a sneaking suspicion that if its not the brass bit it may well have been the diff.
