Drivers seat adjustment?

Fitted "new " leather seats last week but I find I have a problem with the drivers one.
Problem 1 The hook on the inside (nearest the h/brake) will not catch unless it is forced ???????
Problem 2 The back of the seat will not raise / lower when the hook is engaged but will operate normally when the hook is NOT engaged.
Had a look at the mechanism on the other seats that were removed and it would appear that the only way to use the old frames is to completely remove the old covers and replace with the leather ones, if they fit.

I have actually broken the rotary knob off the old seats trying to force it round to adjust the back of the seat with the hooks engaged.
On the parts list I cannot find the part that actually lifts and lowers the back of the seat, it would appear that the back of the seat is all one unit.
I have put the old seats up as "Free to a good home" but it may end up as minus drivers seat.
