Scirocco Register

Alright guys just thought id ask to see if anyone can give me an answer to my query. I am de wipering my tailgate and therefore not going to need the connected wires. I am also looking to install a boot popper and weld up the lock hole for that smoother look. So my question is am i able to run the popper of my wiper wiring, there fore i would be able to pop it by pushing the stalk backwards. Id also look to making it only work when the handbrake is up. Has anyone done this? Any info would be very helpful.

I know a guy that had a boot popper on a Mk1 Golf using the rear wiper wiring. It was a total pain to get the boot open since someone had to push then pull the tail gate while someone else pushed the stalk. I guess if you fit something to push the tail gate up when the catch releases it'll be all good or maybe a delay type gizmo to keep the catch open for a period of time

As for making it work only with the handbrake pulled....good idea that!

I think if mine was unlatched it would fire up. Im running no spoiler and it shoots up real quick compared to one wuth a spoiler. I get what you mean though but a lot of people install them it just needs to pop out of yhe bracket like on fords and that. Making it via handbrake up i think is a must, its a bit easy to push the stalk back when messing and i wouldnt want the boot flying open whilst motoring along haha. Need to look into this more.

I've had them on my last two roccos. first one I did myself, second one was done with all the body work.
Best bet is to lay new cabling, you don't know what condition the old stuff is in and I found it pretty easy to do: traced it all through the body and attached a piece of string to it. Makes putting the new wiring in much easier.
The popper itself isn't that hard but can be fiddly to mount. It pops off the remote fob or a switch hidden in the cabin.

Be really REALLY careful if you're running no spoiler, mine was off the first time and I fired it while standing over it and it properly shot up and chinned me. Think I might have a video somewhere

Nearly chinned myself earlier haha. Ok did you run it off a button or from the stalk? Just trying work out how best to do it. Which popper did you use?

In the first one it Used a push to make switch, the new one is on the remote fob and another button hidden on the car.

I'd also advise an over ride for getting in. Because my car is completely de locked (Audi 80 door handles and a popper) it was essential. I don't mind explaining my solution but I'd rather not plaster it up on a public forum.

See im looking at audi handles as well as its better security and much better looking. Could you pm me over how you done this. I would need like an over ride switch as you cannot always trust electrics. So much to consider isnt there.

The Audi handles look gorgeous but they were an utter bastard. The door doesn't have any strengthening so it can warp when you're fitting them and the actual locking mech inside the door needs modifying.
I say this like I did it, I didn't. My body work guy did and I can only assume he used magic in the end. I've taken it apart a few times and the workmanship is incredible.

I've smoothed my boot and got the popper wired to the wiper stalk. It unlatches enough to open the boot and thats with a spoiler. Deffinately check your wiring though because I managed to melt mine when welding up the boot lock hole, DUH!
