hi im anthony i introduced myself briefly in the appropriate section but now have the old heap home so thought id put some pics and details up.

i was working down a small road (the kind you dont go down unless your going there) and noticed the neighbour had a pink/red unloved GT on the drive, ive always had a soft spot for sciroccos (or any classic/retro vw for that matter) i gave him a knock on the of chance and it turned out it had been sat untouched for two years but was only left because he got a new car and never actually broke down. he had been offered £50 from the scrap man but he was to attached to it to see it crushed. i offered to match it and try and save it which to my surprise he accepted! :vcool: it was a non runner at this point so i had arranged for a mate with a truck to grab it for me but thought id try a squirt of fuel and a booster pack first it turned over near enough straight away and sat purring fine even went up the road and back without a glitch. checked it over more thoroughly and to my amazement every thing worked right down to screen wash and every last bulb inside and out.

this is how i found it

i thought it was wise to stick it straight in for an mot to see what i was up against and if it was worth messing around with. got the garage to collect it on trade plates and it failed to even make the garage 3 mile away :crying: they towed it back with the instruction if its too bad give up and ill scrap it. was most surprised to receive a phone call an hour later to say its running spot on and more importantly had flown through its mot :shocking:
turned out to be cack old fuel and a blocked filter (didn't even charge me!)

at the garage

its now home and ive started the cleaning/polishing progress spent 2-3 hours this morning on the outside losing all the mould and penicillin once washed i had a crack at making it red again only got as far as the bonnet and not sure how it will last but looking good for a 50 quid car!

its got 75k on the clocks and the owner thinks he was only the third but log book is missing so ill take that with a pinch of salt till i receive a fresh one.

will keep this updated as it progresses think ill run this one for a while and sell my retro escort instead.

been trying to post this for a few days but think there has been an issue with photobucket links for some reason.

in the mean time i have finished polishing it now and apart from the drivers door im quite impressed with the old heap, should be taxed and insured by the weekend.

no real plans for it at all, may try to find a better door and some decent standard fit alloys. but other wise this will just be ran until the big project is finished (classic 1200 beetle) i was driving a retro modified mk 3 2 door escort estate but have had a good offer for it so the scirocco can stay.

I would say it is definitely the find of the year.
It's amazing what some elbow grease can do.
Any pics of the engine bay ?

none yet its a bit mucky under there at the moment its got or had a slight oil leak. all looks stock and tidy though was impressed how straight and original it looks especially the boot floor right down to the paper sticker still near perfect showing optional extras and paint code etc.

Engine code = EW

Paint code = LY3D = Tornado Red

CS = Trim code = Black/Red

There were only 5 factory fit options available for the GT, they were Automatic transmission, steel sliding/tilt sunroof, front sports seats, alloy wheels and metallic paint.

The chasis number indicates it was built in 1987, so should be a 1.6 engine.
