Hi guys, just got my 'rocco at the weekend drove it home from North Wales to Northumberland and had loads of fun, other than only being able to listen to Radio 1! Anyway I went to install my sony head unit this morning - never thinking about the electric aerial, so basically I'm stuck I have no idea what wires go where and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. Here's some pics of what I'm left with after taking the cassette player out and the sony's wiring. any help will be much appreciated. Thanks. Steven

The black and brown blocks are ISO connectors and should plug directly into most modern head units. You might need a harness to go between ISO and the Sony unit if these don't plug directly into the back. Autoleads are the most easily found manufacturer of these sorts of things - you can buy them from Halfords, any car audio retailer or online (eBay etc).

You shouldn't really need to do any wiring if the person who fitted these in the first place did it right.

Yo, cheers for the speedy reply, being in a bit of hurry earlier I forgot to mention, that the sony head unit came with a harness that does fit directly into the iso connectors, so I plug them in, turned on the ignition and........nothing no power to the head unit, I was wondering because of the electric aerial if i would have to join a wire from the harness into the car's wiring, there is a light blue wire on the harness labelled ATT? I'm just baffled by this as I've never had a car with an electrical aerial. Cheers

Are you using a loom from the back of the Sony to the ISO connectors? I guess you probably are.

Scirocco radios are generally wired up with a permanent live (i.e. they work whether or not the ignition is on).

Your Sony loom will have a switched (usually yellow) and permanent (red) live feed. On most of these looms there are accessory wires so that you can plug the switched live into the permanent live circuit - you need to do this to get it to work. Either that or you'll have to wire in your own switched feed to the ISO connector in your car.

I think I'm with you, the cassette player does operate without the ignition turned on, I shall have another play around in the morning and see if I can sort it out. cheers for the help fella.

What Ed says with the perm live and switched live.
Electric aerials are usually powered by the blue cable off the majority of stereos.

Whereabouts are you in Northumberland, myself and a few others on here have some mini meets in the north east and there is also the Durham Dubs show which we have a club stand on the 10th September?

Yeah, I think you're right, the green wire pictured seems to be connected to a blue wire coming out of the back of the existing head unit, when you take the green wire out of the equation the stereo (and aerial) won't power. I think I've figured it out, not gonna get time til the weekend now so I'll just had to put up with the crap on the radio for a couple more days!

I'm just near Hexham mate, would be up for some meets!

Nightmare..... I managed to get the sony unit to power up, stuck the aerial power cable into the equation and it extended, the realised when I turned the ignition off the head unit was still on and the aerial was still up, I take it i had everything wired into the permanent live?

Quite posibly. And be aware that it may also be draining the battery

It is a perm live unless it has been switched through the ignition. I am planning to be back in the north east at the weekend, I am more than happy to sort it for you mate.

Yeah I encountered a battery draining with this head unit on a car a few years ago, i just had to switch the red and yellow cable around that time.....if only it were that easy. That would be cool Ian I would really appreciate it cheers.

Which wire was your switched live?
I have a yellow/white wire but testing it with an electrical tester with ignition on it has no current.

Sciroccos didn't leave the factory with a switched live, they had perm live only.
For ease you can take a switched live from the heater switch above the radio.

Does your car have an ISO block or has it been butchered off as so many have these days?
