GTII Sports Seats vs the GT ones ... are they much better?

With a bad back I find the standard seats in my GT don't give a great deal of support and I'm usually in agony after the first 100 miles of any long journey.
So, I'm wondering if the sports seats, like the ones below, that were fitted in the GTII models are any more comfortable and/or do they provide better support?
Any comments much appreciated.

As long as I stop every 3 or 4 hours I've always found these seats fairly comfortable and I've never had a problem with the lumbar support.

I much prefer sports seats than the "comfort seats", hold you in place better!

as a fellow bad back sufferer, they're not too bad in good condition - i used to be able to do leeds down to bristol without stopping and more or less still able to walk the other end. bear in mind though, even a seat taken from the newest mk2 is still going to be 20 years old, and won't have the support that it once did. you may have better luck with corrado seats.
i've just put a set of mk3 gti seats into my caddy, and thy are brilliant compared to the "comfort" ones that were there before. don't know how easy they would go into a rocco though. on the plus side, the driers seat will go down very low, although there isn't room for my legs if i do that

I'd seriously consider getting an auto trimmer to refurbish your seats if they're uncomfortable.
As an owner of multiple Sciroccos, I can tell you that the level of comfort afforded by either Gt-spec, GTL-spec or GTX/Scala/GTII-spec seats is hugely variable. In good condition, they're all quite comfortable, in bad condition they can be terrible.
Overall the sportier seats are probably a bit more supportive - they obviously hold you in more at the sides, but the seat base is slightly longer and gives better thigh-support.
If I were you, I'd get a set of sports seats with decent cloth and have a trimmer replace all the wires and foam to give you a factory-fresh level of comfort.
I have heard good things about
http://www.bromsgroveautotrim.com/ - Jupiter8 on here is currently having a set of seats re-done by them.

Thanks guys for the feedback.
I'm torn now as to what would be the best route to take. Obviously, replacing them with newer seats be that from a Corrado or something similar would be the most comfortable solution. However, I'm trying to keep Lily standard - even though with Project Poppy now cancelled the temptation to modify is stronger than it was before.
I suppose a more 'factory' option would be to go for the sports seats, but I really don't like that tartan. Does anybody know if they came in any other pattern ... ideally like Lily's are at the moment? If not, then it might be worth going for a re-trim as suggested by
Ed.
Decisions, decisions ...

it's not modifying, it's improving ;)

yes they did. scalas had body colour (ish) seats with a black crisscross pattern on, the GTX had either black & grey or black & red stripes. of find some sports seats and get them redone with replacement foam and material of your choice. go on, ya know ya want to [/devil on shoulder]

The GTS had the same seat material and pattern as the GT but the front seats were "sports" seats, if you could get hold of some of them you have a perfect match and no need to change the back seats.
