Hi,

I'm in the middle of purchasing my first Scirocco this week, a gold '79 GLS in what i think is very good condition really cant wait.

Ive searched for months and couldnt find a jot, so I settled for a polo coupe gt (for sale now...) - then three turn up! So i took a look this weekend and although its fetching a price, i think it will pay off as the shell is solid. Ive owned several mk1 golfs, but I cant see myself going back now...does that mean i'm growing up?

Ive just noticed the register meet on the 30th, the car is nearby so I'd really like to bring it fresh from the current owners drive, thats gonna be a great day out.

Plans... Enjoy the car as it is, cos its standard and original and low mileage
Save up for a bang tidy respray and restore in years to come.
... and one day maybe think about engine swaps....if I can bring myself to modify....

Quality forum by the way.

Catch you later

Bruce

Plans for getting to cosford are going well...

I'm looking around for upgrading the carb on the FR 1.6 - I take it a single carb is my only option. Are twin carbs, bike carbs etc right out? I'm presuming twin carbs simply wont fit behind the engine?

Thanks

I had a single Weber 40 DCOE back in the 80's (still got the carb and the Lynx manifold) and twin 40's were also fitted by some, but it is a tight squeeze.

wow thats great you still have the weber - interested in a sale?

I think i'd like to keep it a simple as possible for now...a single weber will still sound very nice and give it a boost wont it - or is it worth going for twins??

5 days to go before collection...

I'm chuffed i decided to drop in at Cosford - really good day, shame I had to cut it short! Good to chat to various members, see some great cars. :good:

Made it back to Southampton sat afternoon- not without a few blue smoke clouds on the motorway. I dont think its had a good run out above 40mph for a while!

Anyway gave it a good wash first thing sunday morning - looks the bomb. She drove us to the beach four up no probs! :vcool:

So first things first, polish and wax, sort out the ditchwater - sorry, coolant.

Whip off the tow bar - anyone?

Put on the new front bumper and black up the rear.

That should keep me busy until my new spring/shocks and wheels arrive....

could you let me know what they are like. will they fit(seems a tight squeeze where they fit to the body of the car.)

Car looks solid. I have a cosmos silver mk1 but really like your colour. Black those bumpers and tyres, such a little thing but it really makes the difference
