Re: Introduce yourself
Hi Guys.
Been browsing the forum on and off for years and thought I ought to say hi.
My name is Peter and although english, I have lived in France for around 12 years. I previously owned a mark 1 storm (reg YTC 500V) until leaving the uk. It was a car that my father had owned from new and then i bought off him. I don't have many regrets in life but selling the storm is definitely one of them. I drop in from time to time, either in the hope of seeing my old car or spotting one for sale to ease my pain.
No other VW's in my life right now but i do have a porsche 964 which was the realisation of a childhood dream.
All the best
Peter

Re: Introduce yourself
Just joined up, though I've popped in informally to have a look before.
I have a C reg GT 1.6 that I bought to rescue back in 1999. Started work on it, but a job, then house move put it on pause. Fifteen years later and I still haven't properly progressed as I found some rust in the rear wheel arches amongst other things. At least it's not as bad as the Moggie that has been on hold longer because the rust is way more serious.
Anyhow, I need to decide how to proceed, so thought I'd join here and try to get some ideas where I can get repair panels from, or maybe who / where I can get the work done to get me kick started. I can MIG weld but it's so rare I do it I'm probably better to get someone to do it for me.
I did buy a few spare parts as the originals were a mess (dash, drivers door, some glass) but I'll need others to finish the job.

Re: Introduce yourself
Hello.
I would tell you that my name is "Jonny", but even my siblings call me "A.K.".
What am I about? I live my life a quarter mile... wait, no, that's not right. I'm about anything with an engine. Whether it be wheeled, winged, hulled, or otherwise, if it's self propelled, I want to know about it.
Didn't know what a Scirocco was until I "played" with one in the early morning hours one day on an NJ highway. I saw one little VW roundel, & absolutely obsessed over these cars until I owned one. Nine years later, I bought one in Mars Red that just screamed "buy me". It's become the cornerstone to my collection, & with every car I've driven since, I look for the same emotion behind the wheel. It's the only purchase where I've not felt a shred of buyer's remorse.
I've daily driven her through blizzards, & through humidity that left me with swamp ass. Though she has a tempermental electrical starter, I wouldn't trade her for the world. I love my Volkswagen. Air-con would be nice, though.
What're my plans? I plan on driving this bitch cross-continent, through Canada, & down through the South-Western US to go back East, then up the coast back to NJ. Currently, I'm looking into what suspension set ups would be good for this. I'm also looking at mildly upgrading internals with whatever is still available to prevent failure on the road. I don't plan to autocross the car, but I do plan on building her to take the abuse. Any suggestions to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated, btw. You're collectively a wealth of knowledge that I plan on taking advantage of; just a fair warning, y'all.
As far as Scirocco's go, this is basically me in a nutshell.
Sorry if it's a little TL:DR.
