Re: Mars Red GTX Restoration
Hi Mark,
I haven'y run disc backing plates on any cars that I've built, purely because when I've removed the rusted ones that were on there the holes for the bolts have become un-salvageable!
But I've never had any adverse results from not running them.

Doing a really nice job on those parts.
One small thing which you may already have picked up on (or will find out soon) is the pivot bolts area probably in the wrong way round. The nut needs to be inboard and the head inside the dished washer.
I've had to replace my pivot bolts with allen cap heads and I checked to make sure they would fit inside the body as they are taller than the hex head. They do but only just.
When they are torqued up there will be more room but i doubt enough for the thread and nut the other end.
Just didn't want you to get it under the car and then find out.

Is that light at the end of the tunnel or a train coming the other way?

Cheers guys, will swap that round before it goes on the car..
Bought another tin of Waxoyl to give all these bits the proper treatment before fitting.. It's not good looking all shiny and perfect if it only stays like that for a couple of weeks! I want it to last another 26 years and then some!

1.8t block cleaned up and satin blacked, piston clowns cleaned up, and all brackets sent away for blasting and coating, new gadgets and belts and sensors ordered...
Head ready to be sent to the man in the shed for guides and and a cleanup..
Loom and ECU stripped and sent to 'Kevin' for necessary 'tweaks' and changes to parameters, and things that need to be removed from the ECU sensing so that error codes don't appear for things that I'm removing like the carbon canister etc etc. and of course a map installed..

More to come when I get the bits back form the vapour blasters..
In the meantime

Re: Mars Red GTX Restoration
Few bits and bobs back from the vapour blasters, comes up like new, and doesn't remove ANY of the original material. Ideal!
There's a few steel bits here. They will be red oxide sprayed and tough blacked. But pretty happy with the results to be honest.

Spacer for using the 16v tensioner so the mount will fit.

Dropping the head up to Dave Crissell at 'all stage' cylinder heads for a recon which will include new exhaust guides and a general clean up of everything, very very light skim and new stem seals, will be like new when he's finished with it. As always. Have used Dave for a few years now, wouldn't take my heads anywhere else!
