A quick update of Grotto activity this week - my Rover SD1 landed for a respray.

This also involved a little bit of welding (Mr Shavhead had already done an amazing job of the rear end) and then it was time to strip, prep and paint.

Some pictures:

Repair to the front lip of the scuttle panel, new section made, shaped and welded in.

Been too long, update needed on the Grotto goings on.

The Rover got painted and Matt spent a week at the Grotto undersealing the car and getting it fitted up. Pleased to report that the car now has an MOT :yahoo:

But now time to Rocc (sorry, couldn't help myself).

Ed's 1984 GTI arrived for a tidy up.

Rear arches needed work. Drivers side here.

Rebuilt the lip all the way around the arch.

The other arch required some minor work also. Spent some time taking shallow dents, stone chips and some scabs out. Bit of spot primer, then onto paint.

Next in is Dave V's Mk2 Storm.

Dive straight in. Bodykit removed to see what is what.

Rusty rear arches.
NS first.

Outer arch cut away to reveal state of the inner wheel arch lip.

Rebuilt the inner wheel arch lip.

Then added the outer arch.

To achieve this I utilised genuine MarkH repair panels.

Inner welded in and painted with weld through etch primer, then outer added.

I have similar problems with my rear arches, where would i get doner arch lips ? Surely they will all be rusted too? Or would a bodyshop rebuild and weld in a new piece ?

Hi James, have been keeping up with your thread, good stuff!

VW do not seem to continue to press the repair panels for the rear arches to my knowledge, only the complete rear quarter, so your closest thing to brand new is from Joost. See here: http://www.sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/ ... =30&t=6038

Alternative is to use a good arch cut off a wrecked car (as in the Mk2 Storm above), or to make your own using sheet steel (see the 1984 GTI above), I did this to construct the whole lip in sections on one side of the 84, as the repairs were pretty much confined only to the lip only.

Inner lips can be made from adapting Golf mk1 repair sections or fabricate from sheet steel.

I have had a look at your latest post and the rust on your car will pose no problem to anybody confident with bodywork/welding. Where do you live?

The usual A1 platfrom cars grot spot got degrotted.

Those new arches had a light skim of plod to even out any distortion.

Applied a coat of etch to the repairs/bare metal then onto Primer.

Then Dave told me hit it with the lowering stick.

Fitted up. The bumpers were revived using a heatgun followed by some bumper snot.

LOVE the choice of wheels and the subtle colour chosen to match the car, very tasty.

Thou didst such a cracking job in the Storm sir. That big grin I had when I picked him up.. still there :hugegrin:
