Hi all, new to the forum and obviously this is my first post.
A few months ago I acquired a Mk2 Scala in what I presume is Helios Blue. Really good condition interior but one of two bits of rust, a cracked rear bumper and a rear quarter bend on it.
Unfortunately it had a small engine bay fire on the way home but other than that it seems OK. Only just started work on it yesterday as I have a Mk2 Escort in bits in the garage and the weather has been a bit rough for doing anything on the drive.
Used to run a Mk3 Golf as a road rally car (for those who are unaware road rallying is basically entry level bottom rung of the ladder rallying, mainly navigational but with private sections as well that you can do in a bog standard car) and have been running Audi's/VW's of one sort of another since I was about 20.
I got the car at auction with the intention of using it as a daily driver, hopefully up and running in the next month or so. The intention being to get it running right and mechanically sound and run it till next summer as I wanted to have a trip to Europe with it (Osnabruck and Nurburgring predominantly) then get it into the body shop and minted when I get back.

Ah yes, that's another project which is unfinished.
Currently that, a Mk1 Escort, a Mk2 Escort and an ex Ford Motorsport transit Mk2 with a V6 in progress at the moment. I don't actually have a daily driver right now at all so make do with various scrappers before I strip them to try and keep myself mobile as I keep on selling everything.
Scrapped my old 100 Avant and have spent the best part of 18 months trying to to find a replacement and keep looking at cars that are worse than mine. Really wish I'd fixed it now!

Cheers chaps.
I'm not to bad with Golf's so expect a lot of it to be the same, but obviously presume there are some Scirocco vagaries as well. I'll chuck a project thread up and some pics once I'm sorted. I need some parts as well but obviously I'll cover that elsewhere in the relevant parts of the forum.

My name's Adam, some of you may remember me from years ago. My White Scala is now back on the road (has been since late 2012) .

Had a busy few years with a few job changes, a house move and marriage. Scirocco spent 4 years off the road with a half complete ABF conversion.
Now all is well, sadly she isn't as tidy as she was, paintwork needs a damn good wash, clay, polish and repeat.

Hi Mate,
I'm good thanks!
Went to last Prept, wasn't as good as I remember and is a big old journey, I think I'll just try to get to one every few months or so.

Hi all, I'm Jim (one time Scala owner who now wants another!)
I had an 89 Scirocco scala injection years ago which was great until the clutch cable busted through the bulkhead
Many years and multiple VAG cars later Ive decided to look for another one ( a mint white Scala lives near me and I keep seeing it and thinking I need one!).
I am looking for an injection model but there seem to be loads of GT2's for sale in great condition. The trouble is I have never driven one, are they much slower than an injection? And are the insurance costs any better?

Insurance costs will not be much different, especially on a classic policy.
There's not a massive difference in performance, but the injection is smoother and a fraction sprightlier.
Getting the best car you can is most important (bodywork particularly), but personally I'd hold out for a really good fuel-injected car.

As Ed says go for Bodywork above everything else. They are old cars. Check rear arches and under the doors and rear arches in the boot with bootlid open.
Injection, smooth.
GTII. Get a webber, tune it well and with a K and N filter, good plugs, etc 0 - 60 is trousers great.
I'm currently driving a Scala with a MK2 Golf 16v KR fitted. Quick but I miss the old GTII for the torque in the lower regions.
GTII"s can break down. Trying to find the problem can be a nightmare. Fuel injection is normally solved very quickly.
GTII Carb. 0-60 more fun.
Injection, smooth and reliable.
A well tuned GTII is quicker than an injection 0-60, past that injection kicks ass. Only my opinion from driving both types ofcars.
