Indeed, it was the early CL's that did not have the side trims!

Cheers for the welcome guys!
The side trims weren't too hard to remove, took a while with a hairdryer over a couple of unusually sunny days and used a bit of petrol on a rag to get rid of any stubborn patches of adhesive.

As the new owner of John (RoccoGTX) 1986 GTX, I thought I ought to introduce myself!!
VPJ has been brought down to NW London to live with a few new friends - two Triumphs - a 1973 GT6 and 1980 Dolomite 1850 and a 1995 VW Corrado 2.0
Had a CL back in 1986 and I consider that quite possibly, I am only around today due to the robustness of the Scirocco, having fallen asleep and bounced off the M1 cental reservation barrier at 75 mph.
I absolutely loved the look and drive of the Scirocco then and still do and hope I'll have VPJ for a long time to come.
I must confess that I'm not as handy with the old spanners as I would like to be but with the odd spare car around, I can hopefully take my time and get things done!
I expect to be pestering you all with some probably dumb questions!
Just need to get my other half to learn the love for the Rocco

Glad the GTX has found a new home. I am in central London most of the time so do not hesitate to ask for a hand, always happy to help a fellow member as are a lot of people on here.

Hi everyone,
Iv been the owner of this 1992 GT2 for around a year now, and since purchasing it I have been on and off the site a bit, but Im starting to do a bit of work on it now so Im on a bit more often as Im looking for advice and inspiration!
Im from Ireland and what drew me to a scirocco over a golf is that they are quite unusual over here! I like things that are a little different!
When i bought the car it had the standard GT2 engine but it was always my intention of, and some of you may not like this idea, but I had always intended on swapping out the petrol engine and fitting a 1.6td engine from a golf/jetta, this swap is finally complete now and Im very happy with the results!
Anyway heres a picture of the car itself:

ive been the owner of the scirocco turbo for about 13 years now, did put it up for sale as had not driven it for over 6 years and have to many cars, however got aske dto bring it homw and take phots, after a new battery, and fuel tank, started first time and drove home the 20 miles, made me smile again , so decided to keep.
will need some help with various bits
but look forward to meeting you all

I don't actually own a Scirocco, but have been looking for a 2nd generation car.
I've been interested in VWs forever - learned to drive in my parents' Mk1 (a 1977 model), and when I got married, we bought a second-hand '83 Mk1 GTI. I'm the original owner of a Mk3 GTI (which I love) and my wife now drives a 1.8T Beetle (with almost 250,000 miles). But unfortunately without a Scirocco or any recent Mk1 experience, there probably isn't too much I can contribute to the forums at this point.
I'm a member of several VW forum websites and I have to say that quality of the information and dialogue (you could call it the "signal to noise" ratio in engineering speak) on this site is top notch!
