I didn't know that you were going to be busy or I have come and given you a hand.
As far as the Parts Department goes it has a spare indicator lens in stock.
Parts Department also has two wings (white & 99% rust free) but they were on a non-bodykit car so we would need to know if they can be fitted or not.
Leave you to check that one out.

Worst bit of rust on both wings.

Think that the Parts Dept also has new, never fitted horns but the miserable old gaffer might want to swop them onto his car and give you his old ones that DO work.
From memory the wings on the H plate in the scrappies were OK, do you want me to find out a price for them ???????
If anything else comes to mind I'll be in touch.

I've just put a wanted add up to. I think all the wings are the same aren't they? Why are all the White cars rust free?
Are you not wanting to use these yourself? I'd definitely be interested or the ones in the scrappy depending on condition/ price.
As said in wanted add I'm not in a major hurry so we can have a chat about it
I'm definitely prepared to pay you what they are worth. The horns are something I don't mind doing a wee refurb on anyway, they do work ok. The worst part of this car right now is continuing to remove parts rather than actually have any sense of things getting fixed, welded or going back together
Actually I'll give you a call right now

Those wings don't have holes for indicator repeaters - introduced around 1985, I think.
It's a shame to drill into these as they're harder to find for people who have the earlier cars. For a later car I'd think about finding some late pattern wings (the indicator hole is the only difference) or you could run without the indicator repeaters.

Thanks for the info,We thought the early wings might be a bit different other than the holes? I wouldn't want to drill them and I'm pretty sure my MOT centre wouldn't make an issue out of this. So OMR I'm definitely after those wings mate and the Indicator lense

This is my daily car, well was my daily

It seems to have more rust than my project Mk2 Golf which as some people know could be worth considerably more money.
I am not doing anything to it welding wise and not spending a single penny until I get the other wing off, remove the door plastics (rust under there also) and remove the rear beam.
Then I'll make a decision whether it will actually be worth all the work. I am going to be graduating from Uni and will need a car either way so I'll either have to go at it with the welder, paint and spanners or just pick up another car to take the pressure off. I am almost tempted to get another Mk2 based on body condition and make one really solid car. I can fab and weld, it's the time I'm more concerned with.
Anyway more rust, cut the worst away from the sill..

Inside of rear arch..

It's the brackets rusting for the filler neck..

This looks a nightmare to repair..

Rear bumper bracket, not sure how it is removed?..

Offside rear arch, cut away the worst of the rust..

Uncovered the drivers rear arch and this felt like the last straw
So kind of a bit fed up with the whole classic car ownership right now. I've never driven anything made post 80's and might find myself in a daily that will somewhat lack character

There are good cars out there for under £1000 but I'll be very reluctant to buy anything with a body kit. Either way I have learnt loads working on this car. It's not been good without the Scirocco on the road I tell you.

Well I have no choice, no funds to get some other wheels and this is my only option as a daily. So I'm going to work away on it when I can.
Started at the front end cutting away the rusty grill sections and attacking the rust where the rad sits. I'm going to have to be creative welding in metal to receive the plastic valance and maintain the grill opening to the rad. Maybe some sort of gauze/grill material?

Good to see you back on the case.
Haven't had much contact as I knew you were busy with your Uni assignments and that is enough pressure on it's own.
Shall pop down on Wed with a couple of wings in the boot, if there is anything else you require pm me and I'll see what's in stock.

Well done Duncan. Sometimes it's better just to move on . Looks like a solid car & you've got all the spares if required. Maybe a debut at Bigger?

Hi mate, was pleasure to help in a unpleasant but necessary task.
Agree totally with what Neillyboy says.
Maybe a debut at Bigger?

You know it makes sense.
Be in touch soon.

Sad to see it end like that, but as others have said sometime's it's best to cut your losses and move on.
Good luck with the new one!

Hard sometimes but I think you've made the right decision, cut your losses, learn from it and move on mate. I wish you lots of luck with your new project.
