The best colour on a mk2. I'm really glad you did the decent thing and bought this car, it was crying out for a connoisseur to rescue it. Enjoy.

Is it just me or is Ed some sort of GTI-seeking missile? I'm so jealous.

I even covet your cat, he looks like banterous sort

Next on the list: '81 GTI.

Humphrey (the cat) is a fine and chatty fellow.

Decided I wasn't going to get round to sorting the brakes out myself, so sent it off to the garage. I thought I might be overdoing it if I bought a new master cylinder, but turns out I would have been right; I expect it hasn't enjoyed being laid up for several years.

Picking it up tomorrow with new master cylinder, new rear wheel cylinders and a freshly-bled system. Hopefully have a nice firm pedal then.

Then it's my job to fit the stereo, after which I'll need to talk to a Welshman about my rear arches. Looking into winter tyres too (handbook recommends 175/70 13 on a 5.5J wheel).

The pedal in the '82 GTI is great. I think if you've got a well-kept system, there's no reason for the brakes to be bad.

I actually have to agree with you there. never had one brake-related scare in my car when I owned it.

i remember letting a fellow NI Scirocco driver have a spin in it and he said 'Hey, you actually have normal brakes.'

Praise indeed...

i love this car, by the way.
