Mat,

Bit of a long winding storey but, I run a Vintage Atco/Villiers Lawn Mower circa 1960's It is without doubt the worst lawn mower you could ever own!
I could start a whole thread about my issues with the damn thing!
Yet it is 50 years old and 20years senior than my Scirocco.

If it don't run which is regular, I take the spark plug out, if it is sodden with fuel and black, I reckon zero spark and too much fuel, I tend to sort the spark out first which is basic magneto stuff ( I'm sure all you are short of a spark) If you have a spark, maybe rough running, blakening Spark plugs.

Your carburettor, Yes a four pot needs perfect fuel/air metering to run sweet, but............to get it running - 3 basics. ;)

Matt what fuel line did you use? I had a look on VWHeritage and they list 5mm and 7mm stuff, I want it for the tank outlet to the metal lines which run under the car..
Oh and good luck with getting it sorted, I know how annoying it can be to diagnose a phantom non-start problem! :hehe:

do I really want a carb'd valver? answers on a postcard...

I've gone for the eBay stuff above which I'll fit over the next few days, its looks much the same as whats under the bonnet already, its only a short term fix to contribute to finally getting the car running!

As i've promised to take the car to Tatton show, better get my finger out!

New condensor arrived today, gonna pickup up a new rotor arm tomorrow then fit everything hopefully late tomorrow following the fuel lines, then it will instantly fire into life!

Another push on the car today, fitted last new part the condenser, reset the timing, recabled the plug leads, and looks like the cables to the coil were the wrong way round!
All now seems in order, power is strong, checked with volt meter, spark is now the strongest ever, all looks good, but it still does not fire.

Pulled the plugs and there not even wet, top off the carb and we can see even when the accelerator cable is pushed there is no squirt of fuel, so pretty sure that the carb despite a full clean is still blocked somewhere, now thinking it needs an ultrasonic clean or indeed a new carb.

So I guess I was hoping too much for a car that been stood for pretty much 20 years, think it may be time to bite the bullet and but a Weber 32/34!?

Well best best laid plans and all that... the rocco is still tucked away in the garage...

Image

In more positive news managed to pickup not one but two Weber 32/34 carbs, one with manifold from a Golf Mk2 1.6 and the the other is pretty new but needs the floats resetting... Both were bargains (Its all about the deals!) So well pleased and whatever's left over I can sell on.

Image

Also finally picked up my new grille from Winston at the recent VWNW. Its got the chrome line that mine doesn't have...

Away this weekend at Edition 38, so hoping to get one of the carbs on next week! :vcool:

From memory, your manifold as fitted to the car is a two stud carb fitment, so you will need the Weber 34 ICH. What you have as pictured above will not fit.

However, that manifold from the mk2 Golf should fit your head, so that will allow you to use the 32/34.

Hope you get the car sorted.

Sorry if I've missed it, but how far is the fuel getting? Are you sure it's not a goosed fuel pump?

Here is the list from webber on which carb to fit.

http://www.webcon.co.uk/Downloads/2008% ... 20kits.pdf

I use a 34 DMTR as I had a Zenith 2B2/2B5 fitted to my 1978 Mk1 GLS.

Fuel is fine into the carb, pump has been checked and looks good!

Seem to have finally get some clear direction on where I want to take the car, so started picking up a few more bits as I find them...

Genuine Trimsport Edition38 NOS Alloy gear knob...

Also whilst at Edition38 this weekend though i'd pickup some new pressed plates, the old ones are pretty rusty, great quality from Dubmeister.

I am also pretty decided that I will keep the Impul wheels and get them polished up but am on the hunt for something special in 16" for show wheels! :vcool:
