I've had VW's since passing my test way back in 1985 at the age of 17 I drove my dad's 1303 Beetle whenever I could until I'd saved up enough money to buy my own car; a 1200 Marina blue beetle that I paid £450 for, I had that car for years but I needed a more motorway friendly car as I was doing a lot of traveling for my job and I then remembered a salesman from a company I worked at in early 90's had a Red Scala, I had to use it one day and I loved it! so i looked for one for myself; this will have been around 5 years later. I found a 1984 1600 CL in a local garage for £1,900 so i bought it.
loved everything about it (when it was working OK, had the usual carb trouble but it was hard to work out the problem at the time. no internet to help!) I had it for about a 18 months but eventually sold it through the auctions as I was getting nowhere with the carb problem. My next project came along a 1972 VW Variant that I still have and is still a project all over again!
that did me well for a number of years and then to cut a very long story short this year The company I work for changed their company car policy and when my 2.0 GT TDI Golf went back at the end of the lease all I was going to get was a 1.3 Astra Club Diesel

And there was no way I was going to drive one of them! Luckily there is no age limit on the cars allowed, so I took the 'cash for cars' option and did a bit of thinking! Could I get a MK2 again? So I was then on the look out for a late model rocco that would do the job. It had to be in excellent condition and mechanically sound, enter D-Reame and his fantastic 1988 GTX. A trip was made discussions had and I came away with a great car that me and my girlfriend absolutely LOVE! And the best thing is work are paying for my car and for me to drive it!
It's just great to drive something different. I also find it very comfortable to drive, I used to get bad pains in my right leg driving the Golf but that has disappeared now!
LONG LIVE THE MK2!
