I got the car back together and time for MOT.... in 2010, I took the car off the road in 1999 as it had a some rust on the sills and rear wheel arches, I thought it would only take a few months to do but I got there in the end...
MOT after 11 years and it past.



Fitted mud flaps.



Good job the car pasted the MOT as I used as my wedding car a few weeks after MOT day.




Had to fit a new roof to my Golf


Good reason to use the Scirocco as a daily drive.


It does get used in the rain.

I turned 40 and hired a camper van for a holiday in Cornwall.

Then hired a Porsche for a weekend.

Did a few shows

Only really done a couple of jobs to the car in all that time and 10,000 miles.
Odometer stopped turning due to this cog slipping.


Checked it worked before putting it all back together.


Exhaust pipe finally gave up but managed to find a new old stock genuine part for £35, what a bargain.




Handbrake cable snapped during an MOT test so new one fitted, such simple set up compared to the automatic adjuster wedge.


Fitted Accuspark electronic ignition.


Found a straight front bumper which was painted black badly so cleaned paint of find out it was brown.... still looking for a straight bumper.

Great size boot for carry stuff in.



Fitted this lot in.


Forgot about the alternator over cooking the battery and acid sprayed over the engine bay!



I used the Scircco alot the end of last year as I was doing this to my daily drive.
Old one coming out.



New one ready to go in.




Job done.

Next job is fit some more sound proofing as it's so noisy on the motorway, I've now bought some so the interior is come back out again very soon....

More updates in the soon, I promise I wont leave it for another 6 years.....

Sunny day today and finally managed to find time to fit the new sound proofing, easy stuff to work with and easy to cut with scissors I did try a Stanley knife but that did not work as well as the scissors as I had to keep removing it to get a good cut but even then I had to cut it several times.

I took the carpets out and realized why my car was so noisy as I put very little sound proofing in the car, the front has the original foam/rubber fitted and I fitted some laminate underlay when I put the car back together years ago.

I forgot to take a picture of it all back in but you know what a scirocco looks like inside.
I took about 3 hours to fit and I took it for a quick run and it does seem much better.

Birthday just around the corner so I've treated myself and the car to a new suspension kit.
After going the National meets the last few years and realizing I must have the highest Mk1 it's time I did some thing about it!
The suspension on the car is a Boge kit but with standard hight springs, it's been on the car for a long time and when I push down on 1 side it's firmer than the other side so it's time for a change.
Whole kit with shorter bump stops, will let you know how we get on.

Collected a boot full of goodies today
Springs, shocks, shorter bump stops and covers, I also bought some new top mounts now just need to find the time to fit them.

Love this car, love the history.

Started on the springs and shocks, only done the rears as I want to change the gearbox seals when I have the shocks out of the way on the front.

Measure the height from the floor.

Smeared a little copper grease around plate and shock?


I thought they should be lowering springs but they seem to be the same height/little taller as my old ones???


All made up and back together with a good blob of waxoyl and the top cap.


More copper grease on bottom bolt and back on the car



I did measure just after I fitted the kit and the car was very slightly higher than before.... I'll re measure at the week end once I got my sump back on as I'm repainting that and left the car to settle.
I was hopping it would 30 to 40mm lower????

I seems to have a metal baffle fitted to my oil pump, it seems a much bigger and better design than the plastic thing fitted to my Golf which just fell to pieces when I tried to remove it?

The Scirocco has been in daily service for the last few weeks as Golf of the road and enjoying every bit of it, lots of nice comments from other people out and about.
Not had to do anything to it except put petrol in it, it's such a small tank, £30 ish from 1/4 to full tank! I don't go any lower 1/4 tank to advoid sucking up any dirt etc.
Glad I fitted relayed headlights as I'm going to need them this week.

no to mention how saggy the old ones will be.

Scirocco still being used at the moment and so far I've lost the front side lights, they work if I unplug the upgraded wiring loom so there's a fault with the new loom and the rear wiper has stopped working, I thought it was the wiring but on closer inspection the mechanism has come lose from the motor but being the rear wiper you can't seem to get to it very easily and it's to dark and cold to worry about fixing back on at the moment.
It's also in need of a clean as I've only cleaned it once in 3 months and that's not like me
