steve bain wrote:Thats a very smart headunit and tidy install. Have you stuck your hand through the hole under the stereo when fitting to make sure no wires are trapped? I think I will add a switched live soon, it's annoying not having one!

Cheers :-)

Yeah, the wires were tucked down the back when I tried it. The ashtray wasn't in so I think once that and the blanking plate next to it are in, you won't notice the gap.

MOT tomorrow :?

As long as she passes I'll have a go at final fit of the head unit.

My headunit stuck out about 3mm when first fitted, was able to bend the plastic tab back enough to fit it flush

Rust hole by the nearside front jacking point, brake lights not working and advisory for play in rear wheel bearing.

Luckily the hole wasn't too big, so they welded her up whilst she was in, fitted a new brake light switch and fitted the correct exhaust section for me. All good now.

The headunit I'm using has hands free with a built in mic, but I thought I may as well add an external mic while I'm messing about.

Blaupunkt mic

Wiring finally finished. Two ISO blocks, RCA leads for amp (amp power switch lead is in the ISO connector), iPod lead and external mic lead.

I really like it, doesn't stick out too much as being a modern headunit but has plenty of tricks. I don't use the radio, and the Scirocco hasn't got an aerial, so I'll leave the fuse pulled until I use the car, save the battery being drained.

That does look nice a tidy, what model headunit is that?
To save your car battery its better to remove the main earth cable from the battery, you will need to keep setting the clock in the car.

Cheers, it's a Blaupunkt Toronto 420BT.

I don't think the head unit will be that much of a drain, but as she only gets used about once a month at the minute I don't want to take the risk. The new fuse I've wired in is nice and easy to get to and then no live to drain the battery.
