also, is the height of the centre box not mostly dictated by the downpipe?

Never even noticed that, cheers dude.

The downpipe was the bit I was worried about as it was from an unknown (to me) company, but it fits great and sits up out the way.

Jetex and VW Heritage have been really helpful and it looks like it is to do with earlier cars and the fuel tank.

So between the wrong centre pipe and what turns out to be slightly poor fitting it was a mess. Took it back today and the gaffa of the garage had a go....went to colect it and.....

Loads of ground clearance!!! Not one bang or scrape on the way home or when crawling onto my driveway!! I'm a very happy bunny.

I still need to get the correct centre pipe as it has the proper hangers welded on rather than using that huge bar (correct one in the picture below) so that should change the angle the rear box sits at so the tailpipe exits in the right place

Not as bad as it was

mate. that looks much better. bet your relieved! tailpipe looks great. i really do like your car!

i did take a look at mine but decided it wouldn't be any use to you as mines a custom stainless one so they just made it up as they went, but my centre box (which is only about 6inch long!) is pretty much the same height as yours, maybe a touch higher, but not much..

Cheers mate, very relieved. Thanks, so do I (when everything is going right!)

No probs, I think next time I change an exhaust on anything I will just have a stainless one made! That's small, mine's now sitting higher than the standard one was, so I'm happy :)

Got half hour to play this morning, so carried on with the wiring.

The live from the battery needed to be piggy-backed to power the other fuse. Soldered and a couple of different size heat-shrink tubes, keeps it nice and tidy.

Now two fused lives, one for the headunit and one for the amp. Fuse box will be tucked behind the centre console.

Same with the earth, wire from the rear (for the amp) spliced into the wire run direct from the battery for the headunit.

What amp are you running? They're a bit small for an amp aren't they? Tidy work though

It's only a tiddler, just enough to run a sub and give the sound a bit more depth. Cheers :-D

Here's a pic of it (sub is boxed and inside the hamper) it must be nearly 25 years old now, lost count of the amount of cars it's been in!
