Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
i think if people are gonna go for steel arches they would put up with modding to take the bumpers whilst fitting
you never know, might be decent demand

Its possible. Will have to wait and see. Would be good to help offset all the money i am spending on materials to try different designs.BlackGTX wrote:i think if people are gonna go for steel arches they would put up with modding to take the bumpers whilst fitting

Ordered new materials this morning ready for the weekend. Should be able to get one done this weekend then easy to make the other side of the templates I am creating.
Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
even fiberglass ones could be popular, once its finished and hitting shows take details for people who want them. once a mould is made fiberlass or resin ones can be pumped out.
if you have spare material one that acceps the bumper would be ideal for production if you fancy the initial hassle

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
I have molding materials here as i was going to do it with the previous arch design. This new version may be adaptable for bumpered cars. Firstly i am just going to build all sides and then make a decision from there.BlackGTX wrote:even fiberglass ones could be popular, once its finished and hitting shows take details for people who want them. once a mould is made fiberlass or resin ones can be pumped out.

New gas bottle picked up earlier and sheet on its way so will get progress on it this weekend.
Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
Sorted the positioning of the starting point. Next is the following panel underneath cut out from thick cardboard. This lines up with the current body lines.

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
Also mocked up the vent. Starting with a CAD (cardboard aided design) template.

Cut out basic shape.

Mark out fold lines.

Basic folds.

Taped to the car just because.

Now i have gone through this design this is the right route. I was always unsure of the berg style arches, whereas these just get me excited to finish.
I haven't seen it, just spend 10 mins trying to find it as well.
Just waiting on materials now so making templates then i can get to cutting :)

so do you have the vr6 yet or is that just a plan down the line? i have just got myself a vr6 and am likely to have questions....

I haven't grabbed the engine. I have a VR6 golf at the moment and its possible option to remove that.steve bain wrote:hmm. i can't find it either now. sorry.

I am however interested in trying a diesel build with silly torque etc but eco for daily use.
So the title may change in the near future. Either way ill have to do bay fabrication to accommodate any engine i use.
Also need to sort the roof rails and the sunroof. I am going to very carefully get rid of both. I'm working back to front on this as the fabrication on the back is the longest/biggest job. I should also have the back panel done in the next two weeks, once tubing comes I can then finish it off.

Instead of talking about arches again I thought whilst I wait for materials I'd get to sorting the roof. I wanted to get rid of the roof rubbers and make a nice smooth surface. In comes metal, a welder and some patience.

So a bit of detail on the above. To deter warping in the roof skin and easy of cleaning up I set it within the gutter. I however put a curve in the piece to sit in line with the roof. This allowed me to weld either side with minimal cleanup. It only needs a slight skim which is a winner.
