How the bum and sides look.

All the kit is now removed. I have found my first bit and only bit on rot on the front wings. This is only minor for a 20 yr old car so i am very pleased.

Well so far today i have finally got the car moving. I fitted a new throttle body this morning and it is now not over revving woop. Started driving it up and down my drive are and everything seemed all good. Only thing is it is over heating. Going to check if i have any blockages etc then keep moving from there. All fun.

So got a lil bit more done today. Also think the red rocco will be sold next week, been left a deposit so it means when its gone this project will start moving.
So today was about starting the exterior smoothing. I have been smothing the front valance as its now dekitted and may be running no bumper or some mk1 golf small bumpers.
Started cleaning off

after a lot of grinding and wire wheeling. Got the guy over the road to do some welding just to block up unneeded holes, then small skim of filler.

then some acid etch, will be giving it a quick coat in filler primer tomorrow.


Also got the arial hole welded up and a small skim



And finally the rear badge holes


Right so the next plans are to finosh off smoorhing. Next bit to are:

Roof gutters, i hate the rubber trim to be honest.
All the bump strips to come off
Delete the wing indicators.

I think that you will find it extremely difficult to get a satisfactory finish that lasts with this - filler will just crack as the body flexes and vibrates in use. If you're handy with welding and lead-loading that might work, but again I think you'd struggle to get anything like a decent finish. Someone with more bodywork experience could elaborate on this, but I'm pretty sure that filling the gutters is essentially not worth it.

Delete the wing indicators.

I'd check that the MoT tester will be happy with this - I'm pretty sure there are legal requirements relating to indicator repeaters for cars of a certain age (hence one of the reasons they were added to Sciroccos in the first place).

My current one has the wing indicators deleted. As long as you are able to see the front indicators from the side you will pass an mot. Iv done it on previous cars as well to give it a cleaner look. Iv got a few body shop friends who are going to let me know what the best route for the roof gutters are, i just want a clean body and the roof is one thing i want to change.

I looked into this for Project poppy and, like Ed has said, lead is the way to go but it's a job best left to the professionals.

Yeah i think lead will be the way. Going to see if one of my mates will do it for me, if not ill practice on something then guve it a go haha. Its my kinda thing and ill just practice on something non rocco. I love that silver rocco, very clean and tidy.

Im sad today, the red rocco went a min ago and for peanuts just because i need money. Ahhhhhhhhh

seems we have similar plans! haha. valver with bike carbs, lowered, remove all body kit, remove bumpers and fit mk1 small bumpers, delete the spoiler mounts and fit some big modular steels. then respray orange with black trim.

work looks good so far too!

Looks lie we do have similar plans haha. However mine will be going black and red or gun metal grey and red. Robbed sone mk3 gold gti seats of my mate yesterday for the black and red covers. Im going to be widening the arches as well as i want it wide low and mean looking. Have you got a build thread up?

Think i could do with a new filler neck haha. Gonna get a mk1 golf one and cut it down.

no real build thread yet, i have a thread but its just a tonne of pictures i took whilst getting her back on the road and fitting the bike carbs.

as soon as funds are available then the body kit is coming off, rust patches repaired, the arches will be rolled and widened then some big dished steels will be in place. currently just need to sort the inlet and exhaust manifold and the gear linkage then she's sweet till i can afford the rest.

Whereabouts are you? My Dad needs a filler neck for his Mk 1 Golf cab and has just taken a really good one off a Scirocco to modify! If you want a swap, saves both of you a load of work...

I havent bough one yet bud. Wont be able to afford to till end of the month at the latest.

The Golf Cab ones are available new, I think... you'll easily find a buyer (if not Liam) for a decent Scirocco filler neck on here.
