I was planning to start work on the mk1 this weekend Mark, that was until DARE decided to chew up it's nearside outer CV joint today and had to be carried home by the AA !

Well she should have gone for the mot yesterday, but decided to break down on the way to the test station !!! :ire: So after fighting the urge to cut it into pieces, i dropped the fuel tank to clean it out. Theres rust in the tank, which i think is actually the tank itself corroding from the inside as it had stood for a long time with water contaminating what little fuel was in there. Im pretty sure i have a reasonable spare tank to use, then il clean out the fuel lines, change the filter and try again.
And if that doesnt work, then il cut it into pieces !!!! :diablo:

Small update, i fitted a complete set of gear selector bushes and rods, to cure the sloppy gear change, and then an oil and filter change. :training: Still plenty more to do.

Well yesterday saw her first major run for around two years, when she made her debut at the Midlands Xmas meet ! :beers:
She ran brilliantly with the only issue being the dash lights going off on the way back up the M6 last night, I changed the headlight switch today and it seems to have cured the problem.
Next on the to do list in no particular order is, swap the cracked dash for a good one, source some decent seats, repair the torn headlining, change the cam seal as it's leaking and clean up the engine bay.
I changed the thermostat today, as the heater didn't get as hot as it should, but it's all good now.

Not 100% sure how I'm gonna tackle it yet Ian. It's torn around the boot area, quite badly on both sides. I don't really want to have to change the whole thing !

Today saw the old cracked, knackered dash get binned and replaced with a decent one.
The old one...

Fitted new dash light bulbs and bulbs in the ashtray, fag lighter and headlight switch, i can actually see whats going on now. Then after a good clean up, its looking loads better.

Another job tackled today, namely repairing the torn and knackered headlining around the tailgate. I bought a 1 metre x 1.5metre sheet of black vinyl (although it looks very dark blue in bright sunlight !) for £3.50 from a local upholstery shop and had a go.
Started off on the passenger side. Heres the nasty before shot...

Image

And then after some careful cutting, trimming (several times !) and glueing heres the finished item...

Image

Same for the drivers side. Before...

Image

After.

Now the glues has had a chance to dry, the material has stretched a bit tighter, so it doesnt have all the baggy bits you can see in the above photos. Very pleased with the result though.
I also treated myself to a brand new cd head unit, seeing as my 4 year old decided to break the Kenwood one that id previously fitted. :swoon:

Image

Also i went to my local Euro Car Parts for a new cam seal, timing belt and air filter, which i'l fit on wednesday. £10.31 inc vat !! Bargain. :good:

right enough Mark, that does look very very very very very very very very dark blue as opposed to black. Did you buy it from Father Ted's Vinyl Supplies?!
Feel free to delete this, it isn't exactly pertinent to the thread!
