got the head on with the cam and all timed up. turned the lump over by hand and there wasnt even a smidgen of compression. got very confused. pulled the cam off and fiddled about with things and then noticed this. DX follower on the left, Kent follower on the right.... b@stards! so i think the valves just were'nt closing.
so not all is going to plan at the moment. but i shall order some genuine followers tomorrow and send Larkspeed an irritable email. got the day off on friday so hopefully can have the followers by then and try again...
also got my new dizzy cap in the post today which isnt right, the notch the fits into the distributer is wider than it should be
rant over

Funny I've been running into part sourcing problems at the mo.
Valve stem seals for one, different sizes for the same engine (1.8injected).
Europarts (orange), GSF (green) seals similar to VAG which are larger than europart's seals.
My local GSF checked their complete head gasket/seal set for the same engine only to find that it had the smaller orange seals in it.
Fitted the orange ones before on identical engine and they were perfect.
Now they are too tight (perhaps these are now for 7mm valves.)
and
Seat release cable for bog standard seat,
VAG didn't check or tell me there are 2 different sizes for the longer inner release cable,
gave me one about 3" too long, went back and got shorter one but that is about 10mm too short!
Lever will not release latch nearest door now.
Time to modify!
