At Volksfling I only go on the show and shine to get a good spot for parking, it doesn't cost to enter. A few of us from south of the border come up oin the Sunday.
Not easy to tell what your alternator output is, are there no markings?

I'm thinking Volksfling for the Saturday and camp/drink that night and head home at the end of sun. Would be good to meet you guys on the way though.
Anyway I got all the air vents functioning eventually figured out how to prize them out (thanks Mac rocco) bit of white grease on the mechs and then gave the car a bit of a clean. The interior could do with some sort of shampooing might hire a rug doctor or something similar.. I want an earlier steering wheel.

and a bit of a cleaning on the outside, you can see the vandalism dents on the bonnet from new year time (also very minor on roof

) the paint blow over is not great but I'm sure I can make it better with some chip work and detailing...
I'm off to watch the Daytona 500 on Premier sports, got a cheap code for a few months and have been a fan for years. Ten years since the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt still hard to take on.

^Thanks for the info
Was hoping to get the Weber fitted but ended up taking far longer to clean it and I'm still waiting for the the service kit, choke cable and a standard shaped K+N to arrive .
These crank case breathers don't half make a mess of these carbs

but now stripped and cleaned ready for the kit seems in very good condition..

Fast Road came up with the goods so a service and the next few days off this will be fitted

although I just emptied another half cup of oily water from my catch tank so the Weber fitting might well be a full headgasket and timing belt etc. etc.

Very frustrating times
The Weber carb is still sat in pieces in my kitchen and other than sourcing some parts I haven't been able to do a thing to the car
Between working as a carer and having to do the family farms fencing for the beasts (cows) I am getting pretty fed up of the dramas that seem to occur over at my workshop. I'm so lucky to have the space but every time I have intentions to get something done there's always some sort of distraction and ultimately an argument leading to stress. I actually think I'd be better off working on the street where I live two villages away.
Anyway thanks to Danster and Old Mac rocco I have a rear beam, arb, front arb and driveshafts to refurbish along with other bits (see pic). Car could do with some bearings front/back, suspension which I have hopefully sourced but budget means I'll have to do things in stages. If i can get focused I'll get some bits ordered and gradually work through a planned list of stuff. Seem to have found good prices for bits from Veedubmachine and Tierod 69/B and B components on ebay having got fed up of the GSF site.
Probably just being negative but looks like I'll end up only getting stuff done out of necessity rather than actually improving the overall car :(
Some replacement bits..Can I take off the glass from these mirrors? I see CPT custom did it in an undesirable way

(feel your pain mate) but can they be popped off so I can treat the rust inside? Why does this forum cut my pictures on the right hand side?? theres a vdo oil temp dial there.

Assuming it's not been glued in the past(!) you should be able to pop the mirror glass out with a screwdriver in one of those holes in the bottom of the casing. Pointing a light through another may help you see what you're doing through the 3rd! Bear in mind there's a white bit stuck to the glass, and it's that which clips to the off-white plate. Seperating those 2 is what you're after.

Oh the shame, will I ever be able to live it down!

Have a
look at this and see if it helps?

Thanks for advice I'll have a look at the mirrors just hope you don't mean the Haynes guide which refers to later heated mirrors. They must come off if they popped on in the factory.
Also cheers CPT for the IT lesson. I'm Firefox so might be able to change settings or on Photobucket no doubt.

Very frustrating last few months, so much I wanted to get done to this car but just haven't had the time or energy
So what do you do when there are so many whines and clatters coming from your car that you fear every journey?
Sort out the ICE of course..
Bought a Kenwood head that will take a jack from my Android phone and fitted Alpine 6x4's in the rear then started this on the door cards..
A risky cut of the plastic on the band saw..
Card templates..
Ply was marked out..
Rings cut with Jigsaw and band saw then mocked up..
Then might try some fleece material and resin. What would I use? the stuff you get with fibre glass kits? Might just shape wood and use filler. It will work either way in the end.
As for the car in general I am at a loss where to start as it's my only daily. 40 days till the Register National so would like to get the suspension and paint sorted out to the best of my abilities. This will mean all new bushes, suspension, top mounts, bump stops, dust covers, etc etc.. Then there's a rear axle to refurbish and the struts also to receive inserts. Will have about nine days to get something done but don't want to get overwhelmed.
So many other things like the Weber to fit in a thousand pieces, squeaky fan, noisy accelerator cable, constant hot air issue (I know the fix), rust in various parts of the car from stone chips, dents to actual rear arch/valance rot. Then there's the rusty fuel tank and filler neck. Gearbox is quite whiny and no doubt clutch could do with being replaced.
Realistically I think this car is really about preparing for winter rather than looking good for a show. I'm at a loss where to start either way

Hi stranger thought you had gone into hibernation as you were not posting as usual.
Best thing to do is get a plan and STICK TO IT.
List your priorities - most important first, mine would be engine, brakes, suspension, bodywork.......................................Fluffy dice.
No use having a nice car if you can't drive it.
Get the engine sorted first, squeaks usually disappear with a squirt of grease or oil.
Everything you mention is repairable and as long as the rust is not near a major structural area can be sorted out over the winter months.
Mine is in bits just now with the passengers door off for respraying, rocker and cambelt cover off for painting and new rocker gasket ready to fit.
The door will need to be refitted with all the bits and pieces I took off, rubbers, glass, winders etc and then re-hung so plenty to do.
Tailgate lock being replaced and if it gets through it's next MoT full leather trim to be fitted before August.
DON'T sicken yourself by looking for faults, if it is working leave it alone and sort out what's not working.
DON'T commit all your hard earned pennies to the car or it then becomes a burden and the pleasure goes out of it, just set yourself realistic targets.
Once I'm sorted we could arrange a couple of days to attack your car and see what we could sort out between us.
Cheers for now.

All too true OMR, there is nothing there that sounds major. Agree engine, brakes, suspension.
