Re: Show us your mk1
Finally got it finished -well, almost. First run out last week front brakes binding and can't get fifth gear. Just don't feel like getting underneath to sort them at the moment so may take the lazy way out and shove it in garage. Any suggestions for brakes, gear change welcome, I've got a new linkage set ready. Sadly will miss Telford which is almost my home town due to pre booked French holiday but will get it out somewhere eventually. It does look a bit boring compared to some of the cars on show but just bog standard. Managed to shred all the bills to avoid a divorce.

Piglet, that car looks awesome, very solid. Be good to get a few mk1 scirocco's together for a photo shoot.
love those seats too.
Does anyone have a spare nearside front lower spoiler, mine is broken. got a spare offside one if anyone wants to swap.
cheers mark

Let's face it, as long as you can find one, you'll get a much better condition Scirocco for your money than a Golf and, dare I say it, get a better car tooRocco Ben wrote:i think i've been converted :D

Re: Show us your mk1
I currently have 3 mk1's, an '80 Storm, an '81 GLS, and a '78 US spec car. The Storm was the first of these I owned, though I've had mk1's and a ton of other VW's before then. I bought it with a trashed engine, and then hatched a plan to build a turbo 20v beast out of it. A bigger turbo, mk4 Gearbox, LSD, uprated clutch, and a million other upgrades should see it make a reliable 300hp at the wheels. The engine is in and works, but I have some welding to do before I can have the car painted and put her on the road.
Here's the Storm as I got her, but with the 15" ATS classics I was going to fit (no brake clearance meant they got sold, I'm still gutted):

The 20v engine and GT28rs fitted, it does work, the intercooler pipework just isn't in this pic:

The interior and exterior will stay absolutely stock ;) :

About 4 1/2 years ago, whilst chatting on msn to a guy called Neil in the states, he mentions a mk1 he'd found in th ejunkyard, it seemed clean and compete, but he had no need for it. I was gonna go over for a couple of weeks and reasoned at the price, if it could be made to work, it'd be cheaper than a rental car, so a deal was done, and I traded him some European mk1 bumpers for the car! turned out a flat tyre and an iffy fuel pump were all that was wrong, and in that first trip, I put 1000 miles on her in the mountains of northern California!
I named her Leela, and we've done 6500 miles up and down the west coast. She currently lives at another friends house in LA. I'll be seeing her again in August!
Here she is as found in a San Jose Junkyard in '05:

This is the same year, November though, at the Bonelli GTG in LA, Those rare BBS's are bound for the storm btw:

Her current powerplant, as swapped in the week after last years Bonelli. Freebie 16v's rule!:

She's sporting standard wheels again now, and yeah, she's as rust free as she looks!

My daily driver GLS got her engine upgrade when I came across an Audi A4 in the scrappy. I pillaged the Audi and gave her a heart transplant in May '07. It proved way more economical than the smoker 1.6, and even with stock tuning, will pull 140mph. She's smoked a few Type R's
Unfortunately, some kindly mk4 owning bint decided to remodel the front end, so she'd currently off the road.
Here she is as I bought her:

And how she looked before the incident:

The motor:

Looking to buy my Dads GLS soon too.......

Hi Andy,
Nice to see you on the all new Forum
Three wonderful mk1’s there
I’m still v.jealous of the BBS wheels – But that pic of your Storm on the Classics is what spurred me to get a set
Mine are old-school OPEL and wouldn’t clear the 256 brakes on the front without 5mm spacers and a bit of filing on the caliper carriers :o
