Yay, another GTI is saved.
That looks tastier than a bowl of red hot Texas chilli. In my humble opinion, the early quad lamp GTI is THE perfect Mk2 Scirocco. Looking forward to see this all cleaned up. Have you considered one of these kinds of firms to fix the cracked dash?
http://www.qualitysmart.co.uk/page_1238016883546.html Maybe a little going over with some rubbing compound like Farecla G3 will get rid of those rust stains as well.
Very nice and super rare.
Mum, can I have one? Can I? Please. I'll be a good boy.

Fitted a new battery today with the mother of all hang overs...
The knakered old one..
Tidy battery tray..
Shiney new one..
Starts first time now.
While i had the bonnet open i topped up the washer bottle ready for the MOT. The front washers work lovely but there was nowt coming from the rear one.
After a quick rummage in the boot i found the rear washer bottle and topped it up whilst soaking the boot floor.
Now the motors working but still no water other than a puddle forming on the drive from a steady drip just behind the rear wheel.
I pulled the washer jet out only to find that there was no pipe connected to it. So how do you get at the pipe to reconnect it from the inside of the car?

You remove the washer jet and the bottle (so you can stick your hand up the wing).
Probably best to renew the pipe (you can get cheap 5mm tubing from B&Q) and connect it to the jet then feed the pipe from the top until you can grab it.
Pull it through, trim it and connect it to the pump on the bottle and put it all back together.
Glad you didn't have the algae problem I had.

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at it in the morning.
Started looking for classic car insurance for it, any suggestions?

I bought the 5mm tubing from the dealer, cheaper than B & Q. Heat the end up with a lighter, fits on easier.

Replacing the washer tubes under the bonnet was my first job on the scala. I wondered why the offside jet wasnt working and found that over time the washer pipe had become brittle and broken in about 4 places so replaced it all with shiny new pipe. Try dipping it in a cup of boiling water for about 15 seconds. It goes on very easily then.

to go with your new battery, it would be worth cleaning the terminal clamps up and then giving them a smear of vaseline (not copper grease)
