A spare couple of hours this morning sees a bit more progress, namely finishing the welding to the n/s inner wing. First off was to cut out the rotten metal.
Image

Then weld in the new metal plate and give it coat of seam sealer.

Then i just had time to give it a couple of coats of red oxide primer to hopefully prevent the rust reappearing for a while.

So hopefully next week when im off work again, i can finish cleaning up the inner wing, underseal it , redrill the holes for the wing mounting bolts and replace the wing and front lights. :good:

Did you reroute the fuel pipes or was it already like that?

Imagine the welding kept you warm. :chortle:

It always reminds me of the pipework from an old homebrew distillery !!!

Todays episode starts off with removing the old leaking radiator, the bottom hose will also need replacing along wih new hose clips.
Image

The fan cowl was pretty rotten too, so i replaced it with another one, but not before cleaning it up and repainting it.
Image

Used a good second hand radiator i had spare, and then built it all back up ready to be refitted.

I mock fitted the passenger side front wing so i could drill the bolts holes in the new metal plates, then took it back off and gave the inner wing several coats of spray underseal. Im off on a Rocco related mercy mission to Halifax tomorrow, but if i have time when i get back, i will refit the wing.

Better late than never, time for an update. Refitted the bottom hose, wired up the radiator fan, filled up the system with water and let it run to make sure the fan kicked in. All's well and everything working as it should. Before it goes on the road ( dont hold your breath !) i'l flush the system and put antifreeze in it.
Next up was to finish the inner wing prep and spray it with stone chip (this can be painted at a later date) and then fix the wing properly.
Image
I painted the grill black and although it needs a couple more coats, its looks good, then refitted the passenger side headlights and the front spoiler.
Image
The bumpers were colour coded, but as they are looking a bit worse for wear, i'm going to spray them matt black so wont fit them until thats done. Still got a load of work to do on this and its not going to be the best MK1 out there, far from it, but its great to see it looking almost complete again. :chill:
