Been a bit concerned re oil consumption on this one - had feared piston rings or at least valve stem oil seals.....................anyway, had a cylinder compression test and a very thorough checkover of all the breather pipes and connections with Tim at the Phirm today.
Compression all fine - number 1 cylinder slightly lower than 2,3 and 4 but all well within tolerances.

Another fun drive home - the long way.

Only added about 700 miles since Edition, another bloody oil leak, this thing seems to eat rocker cover gaskets.........

Oil pressure issue? That's the usual suspect for blowing the top gasket.

had the same problem myself - very small leak but def from rocker cover gasket - I am using the cork ones at the moment for authenticity reasons and have sold all my rubber ones - think i am going to have to give in and go for a mk3 golf rubber gasket and replace the studs and bolts also.

I put it down to not using it though - i recon the cork dries out - only a theory though

I changed mine for a cork one in my first year of ownership and it was grand after that

Head gasket, as i've been suspecting for a while, needs changing, it's gone at the rear offside - apparently a regular KR weakpoint.

Off to Dr Saunders @ the Phirm in time for Inters.

112k miles on what is now a 27 year old engine - can't complain too much to be honest and having had a new oil pump/bearings done last year I'll know all is well for a while longer once sorted.

In for head gasket and cambelt today and, on inspection, the head in dire need of some decoking and general rebuild/tlc.

Explains why this hasn't always felt as special as the 16v people suggest it should compared to the DX cars.

Back on the road in time for Inters fingers crossed.
