I have seen rattle can spray jobs in the past. If its lacquered right its hard to tell. Rattle can lacquer is no the best though, and to lacquer the car outside is very difficult, as it will be one hell of a dust,fly,spider, and on and on magnet. If you have access to a shed, clean it out and get a cheap-ish spray gun, (£30 or so) and 2 pack lacquer from Jawel or the like, you will be surprised ho well you will do. you can always wet sand orange peal,runs a few days later and polish up with G3. nice job on the badges, they look ace.

luckily i have the use of my dads garage which is rediculously clean so all the painting will be done in there where i can keep dust and dirt to a minimum and maintain a decent temperature.

took a few snaps of todays progress

inside of wing cleaned, hammerited and waxoyled



same for inner wing



and inside the strut turret




also fitted the front and rear coilovers while I was there.



I have the majority of tomorrow and all of monday and tuesday to work on the car so progress will be rapid :D

bonnet, both wings and the lower rear panel are done. its turned out way better than i thought. not perfect by any means but im happy. it seems the cheap rattle can gamble is paying off

hoping to finish the rest tomorrow. if not it will be finished on friday then its MOT time!

edit: now that ive seen the colour on im definitely going with the white vinyl decals idea. should look amazing next to the green of the bodywork.

Well the weather halted play as usual so im still not done

Do you know if the Montana paint is porous?

i have no clue and i really hope not haha
water seems to bead and run off it but beyond that im not sure to be honest.
from the amount of people that recommend it for home rattle can paint jobs im guessing it isnt but i could be wrong.

I tried asking google but it failed. It would make sense that its non porous. Its got to be better than primer!

(before i'd rinsed all the dust/dusty rainwater marks off)

all thats left to do is paint the doors and shuts, attatch the splitter, apply the decals, give it a good clean then to the garage for downpipe replacement and hopefully straight in for MOT the same day.

if the weather is good tomorrow or tuesday the paint and decals will be done and i'll book it in to my mates garage :D
really excited now that im so close to finally driving it.

oh and just incase anyone was wondering
the tatty plastic numberplates are going the journey to be replaced with shiny new metal pressed ones which i'll be ordering once the car is on the road.

Drivers side door is done and the front splitter is attatched
that just leaves the passenger door and shes ready to go.

Looks really good on the pictures, one thing I did notice in the last set of pictures is your front wiper is parked in a strange place?

I had 16 cans and have 2 and over half left but theres still the passenger door to paint so once thats had 2 decent coats i'll probably have enough of a can left that i can "touch up" any carpark scratches etc haha

youre right
that was down to me turning the ignition off before they were finished their cycle then taking the battery off :p
its still like that actually but im replacing the blade tomorrow so i'll have to reconnect the battery to test

Edit: come to think of it i need to check if ive even tightened the wiper nut up properly because i cant remember doing it haha

I know when I finished mine a when around checking all the nuts, bolts and screws to check Id done the up, I'm still find a few bits of trim which come lose, either I forgot or they rattle lose. I did check, check and check again all the important bits, brakes, fuel line connections, water hose clips.............

ps - an another thread someone said only the first few early Storms had the 4 speed box, I seem to remember 'ours' has a 4 speed box????
