So the strong smell of petrol and the lack of drive was down to a split pipe. Due to the way the fuel lines were routed the line had been scraping ever so gently on the air filter bracket causing a split. I bit the bullet and ordered some stainless braided line and also took the opportunity to reroute the line ever so slightly. Here are a couple of pics as it feels like i havent posted pics forever!

Whilst i was under the bonnet i realised it was actually a loose rad pipe causing my water leak and a bad connection on the throttle body sensor causing the dodgy idle. So touching wood Sabine is running very well again. Lovely day for a drive too :bye:

Thanks Alex. Performance wise its quicker than the previous 8valve but there are still so many bits that i havent got round to doing that are having a negative effect on the power and the driveability. However there are a few bits in the pipeline that should sort that out :yup:

Had a bit of an issue last week, was on the way to drop the mrs off and pulled off the road up a sloped entrance and there was a terrible noise from the o/s/f. I got out to inspect and the suspension had compressed enough for the wheel to hit the arch. Part of the arch managed to bend down and leave a sharp edge of metal which cut a rather large chunk out of my tyre. So this left the car pretty much unroadworthy. Luckily for me i had planned a px on my borbet A's that were for sale for some ATS cups so i should be able to fix the arch and fit the cups. These also have a lower profile tyre which should suit me better.

In the meantime i have been meaning to get around to correcting the driveability of the car. Ever since i changed the hubs and the track rods the handling hasnt been as sharp as it was once. So made an order from Febi Bilstein for some new parts. This morning a rather large box arrived at the door.

So inside are two new wishbones, track rods, wheel bearings and bottom ball joints. I am going to switch from the G60 hubs fitted back to the standard one's, this means the bottom ball joints currently on there will be too big and the track rods the incorrect size. So i will redo the lot and fit brake adaptor brackets to fit the hubs. This should sort out the handling ready for when i fit the new head, cams and vernier pulley.

Will keep me busy for the timebeing. Also got a new upper brace on the way courtesy of Mike H.

Adaptors haved also arrived, the only outstanding thing to do before getting started is to take the hubs to get the bearings pressed and to drill out a wheel bolt that snapped inside one of the lugs. Might also give the hubs a lick of hammerite as they are looking a bit tired.

After a ride in my mates Octavia VRS with a remap running approx 240bhp i decided i needed forced induction in my life. So have bitten the bullet and bought something that will give me this whilst retaining a period engine. Welcome to the G60 motor i will be dropping in soon:

Image
Got a fair bit of stuff with the engine too and it already has quite a nice set up.
Spec on the engine is as follows:
-engine
-mk1/2 golf wiring loom
-ecu (SNS CHIP)
-supercharger (stg4 jabbasport)
-Schrick cam
-mk1 golf brackets (caddyshop)
-poly bushed
-new Hella radiator
-rallye u bend
-full samco coolant hoses
-Corrado gearbox

A few pics from the ad:

Power wise this is running approx 210bhp which i should think would be sufficient for the car. May have a look into diffs soon as well. Picking this up in a couple of weeks and cant wait to get stuck in....Again!! Hopefully this swap wont take as long as the ABF as i wont need to re-address areas that i did last time around.

Git! Was giving it serious contemplation along the lines of a G60 for my swap. Best of luck with it mate, baggsy a passenger ride when you get it running! :good:

After going out in my mates i realised it just had to be done. Will hopefully give it a nicer ride too, the ABF was a fair bit heavier than the DX engine and it just never handled as nice as before (also couldnt get my lower brace on) so i hope that this will give me back that nice ride with more power and a bit of boost! Should be fairly plug and play, only thing i have to decide on is if i run a front mount intercooler. The Corrados ran quite small side mounts but not sure i will have room for that so may end up with a sprinter or td5 cooler up front. The other alternative is a Golf G60 cooler but not are they only few and far between they tend to go for a lot of money.

You never know Alex, i might finally make Cosford next year !

hello all, been a long time since this thread was posted on!
Due to buying a house and getting a company car sabine has not turned a wheel for nearly a year, she has sat unused and untouched on the drive. Her last trip was taking a load of demolished stuff from the house to the tip. Yesterday i decided she had been neglected too long and decided i would clean her up and if possible try and get her running. Last time i drove her she was leaking water, oil and if i remember correctly there was a strong smell of fuel.
Upon opening her up i realised the extent of the task ahead!!

Both front seats had a fair bit of mould on them, strangely enough the rears didnt though, the seatbelts also had a fair few spores on them too.
Image
This was the state in the boot and it was a similar story on all the carpets in the car too, a good seeing to with the hoover was required throughout.
Image
The steering wheel was also a very sorry sight but surprisingly this cleaned up very well. I will take some after pictures later on once i have cleaned the exterior too, its covered in filth and cat prints...

Next job was the engine, i checked the oil level and it was dry as a bone which was not a good start, i had some oil in the shed so i fed her some and filled her up with water as she was also empty of that. When i was pouring the water into the expansion tank i noticed one of the lower metal water pipes was peeing water straight back out, looks like it has rusted through but at least i found my leak, i temporarily used some tape to cover the hole until i can get a replacement or get it repaired. I then removed the petrol lines and reattached. After a few other bits of tinkering i was ready for the jump start. After two minutes of being connected she didnt want to even try and turn over but on the third try she turned over for about 15 seconds and then sparked into life idling perfectly which was a massive surprise. I really wanted to take her for a spin then saw the handbrake had been on for a year, bugger i thought but i took it off and she rolled slightly forward. unfortunately even after running on the jump leads for close to ten minutes as soon as i disconnected them she cut straight out so i am assuming the battery has completely had it. Still it was nice to know she still has life in her. So whats next? Well i would love to say i will put the g60 in her but i no longer have the time to do this myself, i also dont have the cash to pay someone to do it, so it will stay in the shed waiting for me to save up. I also cant see sabine being back on the road with a years ticket any time soon again due to time and money but i am going to make sure i take more care of her so she is up together for the day when i can get her taxed and tested. More pics to follow later once she has been cleaned up.
