Scirocco Register

Had etyres round to fit new tyres - not a great selection to choose from and not the cheapest, but I needed the convenience of home fitting (worth the extra £3 per tyre from my perspective). The old tyres were all legal, but all very old. The handling could be sharper, so I thought I'd start with necessary changes and take it from there. Next stop is the dampers, I think.

Went for Dunlop SP Streetresponse 2 (standard 175/70 13) - will report back on my impressions once I've given them a bit of a work-out.

Only comment I can make on tyres so far is... so much better than the old ones.

Seriously, if your Scirocco is an occasional-use car that does few miles each year, make sure you replace your tyres on age rather than tread depth. Old tyres are useless.

Good advice there... They are the only things in contact with the road, I thought they was going to be bringing into the MOT that tyres older than 10 years would fail as now they all seem to the date stamped on them?

Rubber is good for 6 years even if it sits in a warehouse. Same rule applies to cam belts

my place of emplyment advise to change tyres after 6yrs . they start cracking

in the 7 months ive been in the tyre business, you'll be shocked.

" they still have tread left so they are good, just fix the punture please" to which my reply is " no chance"

Tyres like that only need a bash on a curb before doing a speed test to asda for it all to end badly

Have you guys had to report a car before for unsafe tyres?

its a hard situation with customers.
we had a customer with a leased car ( we call it a fleet vehicle ) the leaser had told us to hold the car once and the customer went nuts. " its my car i want the keys back" sorry sir but your wrong, its a leased car and the leaser has control just the same as to which tyres they want us to only fit, they have said as we dont have the tyres you need in stock and you have no tread whatsoever, then it is not to leave the premises incase you kill yourself or others"
police got called and removed him. turned out as he was so rude the leaser took the car off him as he let it get in such an illegal state..

Think it had more to do with the asshat racing to be honest.

Never understood why people won't pay for decent tyres, suspension and brakes.

Got some terrible balloons on Yoda at the moment along with ebay coilovers. It's utterly terrifying going round corners.

I've been enjoying this one for the past couple of weeks. Wash and polish today before putting it back in the garage and swapping with the GTX. Just ticked over 53,000 miles.
