The fact is though is that these speakers are not direct replacement, If I'd known I think I would have gone ahead and made an install for the components I have.

Don't get me wrong I'll make them fit but just didn't want the hassle right now.
i also have these speakers, but haven't fitted them yet, had it planned as a quick job this weekend. uh oh.

Have we all gone and bought different ones to Ian's?

Mine fitted with no catching of the speaker grills, on both Sciroccos!

I think the card edge on these speakers might be slightly thicker and that's all it would take for them not to fit. I've got the door cards out the car and the plastic housing off the card. I think it is very close to fitting just a bit of persuading. However I'm now offering up my components and thinking of hitting the wood shop.

So either trim that card or cut away the grill a small amount on the ellipse/other protruding bits. Going to be hard to get a nice tight seal round the speaker maybe even fit from the back which looks workable. Any chance there may be a slight difference with the actual plastic housing on some models??

It's the plastic lip around the speaker that fouls the grill down at the hinge end, so I just pop them off, they aren't usually stuck on that well.

We've had discussions about doing this before and some people say that the cone can become detached from the frame over time, but I've not had that problem on any of the speakers I've had.

Not that I can help with the Alpines - anyone tried these?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jvc-csv4625.html

I can just about afford four of these - will be happy to report back if they are direct replacement.

I've been trying to find reference to the depth of the original speakers and the depth of these...

I've ordered them now anyway - we'll see what £40 quids worth can do!

As long as they don't break up like the originals I'll be happy.....

 I got my Alpines from a different place that I had quoted before which involved a deal with a stereo, maybe they are ever so slightly different?

Glad yours fit anyway :good: I've got mine fitted in the back no probs.

This is what what I have done to my speaker housings at the front.. :bye: more pictures to follow in build thread..

Mine were a bit of a fiddle but are ok for the money - interestingly - not so clever With the new Sony head unit - but worked a treat with a vintage radio/cassette - so if you are using vintage gear, these are a cheap upgrade for a little bit of fiddling! You'll need a pair of tin snips to get these in the doors!
