i would have thought it would pass the test as-is. it has 2 dip beam lights and it has 2 main beam lights. would need to refresh my memory on the exact wording for a fail to be sure though

hi nate - trouble is that the dipped headlamps switch to side light mode when the inner spots come on. pretty sure that's a fail?

so far as i can make out from the testing manual (see link) it has everything it needs to pass - a matched pair of dipped lights, a matched pair of main beam lights and a pair of position lights. pass, or at worst a pass and advise.

Spoke to my mechanic mate today... so far as he's concerned, as long as the individual components work when they should, and as they should (beam pattern, etc) then it's a pass. If I remember rightly, my bike used to switch off the dipped beam when on full beam anyways. Knew the relay was knackered when it took a couple of seconds to go from full beam to dipped. Interesting happenings in the middle of winter on a dark country road in the highlands of Scotland (you Scots will know what I'm talking aobut in terms of BLACK as soot night time up there)... on a bend... with none of my own light source to see where I was going... at 80 mph.

of course... a mild typo naturally :yup:

I believe Scottish Motoring law was different at the time, wasn't some of it annexed to Greenland for a few months... hmmm, I guess I'll never know, lol.
